Figured I'd inquire as to what the MWO players like to use to play this game. Back in the day, stock MW4 config was torso on the keyboard and arrow keys for movement, so needless to say, there were some CRAZY configs running around. Also, this was around before the time people realized mouse & KB were superior to accurate aiming vs. joystick.

I'm a big fan of the ASWD cluster and re-mapping keys around this. However, I have dabbled with arrow keys, using number pad (you have to push the keyboard to the left to get it confortable however), ASDF home row, and even using paranthesis [ and ] for turning.

I wonder if all "new" players realize how much their mech movement/control/reaction times would increase if they re-bound their keys to optimal positions?

Luckily default settings in this game are pretty decent compared to MW4. I'll still never forget Busted™ from MW4 who ACTUALLY used torso on the keyboard number pad to shoot :)

4,6 for turning
8,2 for speed
5 for targeting
+,- for zooming.
down arrow for jumps
left,right arrows for groups 5 and 6
* for heat vision

I've been experimenting a little recently with a slightly different setup than what I've ran in the past.

I keep WASD for movement with Throttle Decay toggled on.

E -for 100% Throttle
L-Alt -for Target (much easier for me to get Targets then "R")
R -Artillery (Finally tried the Strikes on my Locust! So I tried having them easier to reach)
F -Air Strike
4 -Night Vison
5 -Heat Vison

Left Mouse - Group 5, (often my weapons on the right side of the mech)
Right Mouse - Group 6, Weapons (often my weapons on the right side of the mech)
Third Mouse - Group 4, Auxillary group to help manage heat
Mouse Wheel - Max Zoom

Everything else should be default, this way I could set up other groups between 1-3 like TAG or some other weapon as necessary.

Another lefty here using the Key Pad and a Programmable 9 button mouse.

8/2: Accel/Decel
4/6: Turning
9: Jump
5: Arm Lock (set to off by default)

7: Alpha Strike

+: Lock Target (ie 'R' for most other people)
KP Enter: Map

0: Throttle 0%
*: Throttle 100%
3: Thorttle +10%
KP Del: Throttle -10%

1: Zoom Mode
/: Free Look
-: Toggle Missile Doors

Left Click: Fire current group
Right Click: Center Legs
Middle Click: Show Target Overlay
M4-8: Fire weapon group 1-5

Other stuff is default, iirc.

Default controls work fine for me. If I used more consumables I would re-map them to the left side keyboard, though.

I'm mainly using the default keyboard/mouse layout, with the notable exception of my ECM toggle to the ~ key and L for All Chat, T for team chat and Y for lance chat.
