Hi Folks
It would be nice to have a rear camera, folowing the movement of your Upper Torso. Automaticly switching on, when you walk backwards.
Could be integrated in the Cockpit, as an addional Monitor.

Nice thought, BIG problem though.
I like to do a fighting retreat. (backing up, and shooting at the same time.)
Would not be possible with auto-rear-camera.

There have been many threads and many posts made with regard to the matter; one of the main problems with the idea is that CryEngine 3 does not natively support "multiple viewports" (which is needed to do as you describe), while another is that the time and resources that PGI would need to hack together a passable solution is ostensibly beyond their budget and capabilities at this point (since they have a number of more pressing & important issues to address first).

One of useless monitors should show backcamera view. Even some BT game from 80s had this feature.

Mechwarrior 4 had the ability to switch your entire view to a camera showing your rear, left, right, or under. MWO should do the same, it doesn't need to be able to render picture in picture to do that.

How about some sort of terrain sensor so you could have some radar type thing somewhere on your hud that shows up anything impassible as red.

Like the idea.
Problem 1) Automatic is bad. A toggle switch is better.
Problem 2) The game engine unfortunately has very poor (read: supposed no) support for a second 'rendered view', so no two cameras at once and thusly, no monitor cam.
Positive thing: With a rearview camera, certain battlemechs can use their inherent abilities...
Examples: Atlas K is supposed to have rear mounted Medium Pulse Lasers.
Many meta Cataphracts wouldn't be meta anymore; their twin shoulder weapons are supposed to be rear mounted.
Quickdraw's hyper extending lower arm actuators allow it to shoot backwards.
Jagermech, Stalker, Blackjack, Cicada, Jenner, Raven, certain other mechs with no lower arm actuator can flip their arms and shoot behind them.

Rear camera, yes!
Automatic when walking backwards, NO NO NO NO
I often walk backward back into cover, while still firing forward, this would ruin that.
Toggle please!

rear camera option good.
expanded 3pv bad
Done right we could have remounted weapons like the Battlemaster should have.
Alas it'll never happen do to... uh... technical reasons.
