First off, I know you guys at PGI have been getting a lot of hate lately and I wanted to say thanks for making a fun game and putting up with all of the BS and complaining. While the community is right to worry about some of the key issues that are regularly brought up, I can't deny that I have been having a lot of fun playing MWO. There is a lot of work to be done ahead and I truly hope that promised features and game modes are indeed on the way and being worked on, but that's a discussion for another thread.

Having said that, my question is pretty basic. Why can't I bind my mouse wheel up and down to any actions?

Especially after adding the separate "Zoom in/Zoom out" keybindings, you'd think the default binding for that type of functionality would be perfect for the mouse wheel up/down, yet I still can't bind it since I started playing the game almost a year ago. When I first began my MechWarrior career almost a year ago and noticed - to my surprise and dismay - that something as basic as having the Mouse Wheel being functional in-game was absent, I assumed it was a minor oversight that would be quickly corrected by one of the patches (I mean, how much coding would it really require?). Yet I'm still sitting here with two perfectly capable keybinds that are still as unusable as they have been from the beginning.

TL;DR: It would be pretty awesome if the Mouse Wheel was functional in MWO.

you can manually do it in the cfg file. I have up mouse wheel as zoom and down as full stop.

Can you show a copy and paste of what you added to bind mouse wheel up to zoom, I'd like to have that.

Which cfg file is it in and how do you find out the commands for each action? Do I need to create a file and if so what do I call it and where is it in the directory? Do I have to include all of the commands from that post [redacted]?

Could bind it through the UI in closed beta. Pretty sure we lost that function when they added the newer Battlegrid, since you can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of it. Funnily enough still having it bound to other things doesn't effect it's function on the Battlegrid. So there was no reason to remove it.

Q: May I modify the game XML files?

A: No. We have allowed modifications to XML files in the past, specifically for joystick control during the Closed Beta period. As of March 19, 2013 we have added analog joystick support to the client; these XML file modifications should no longer be required. All customization options that are not within the MWO game client options should only be performed in the user.cfg file as discussed above. Again, these modifications are not supported by Support.

Removed all refrences to it from the thread.

Using your mouse wheel is the forbidden fruit in MWO. You can do it, but you can't talk about it on the forums.

mouse xml is different than game xml

If you won't allow it, then put a standard feature in the menu config like every other game out there.

OP: If you missed before the redacting, please PM me.

See this script I wrote that lets you configure the mouse buttons.

The rule doesn't make a difference between the two. I have to enforce the rules here on the forums. As I am not a MWO developer I am unable to implement such a feature, as much as I liked it to happen, because it would prevent threads like these and answers like yours. :)

The autohotkey solution from MrDrunkenMaster is acceptable.
