I have been playing Mechwarrior games for quite some time, a decade or so. Until recently, it was mostly the older games. The xbox crap, mods for different games, and even the older games, were all starting to feel like complete crap, or were just getting stale.
I started playing MWO and was almost immediately in love with the way the game was presented. The view distance is incredible, the explosions, sparks and ppc blasts are all animated superbly. The mechs look amazing and the detail in the maps was really taken care of. This feeling lasted about ten matches.
Waiting up to ten minutes for a random match to load, just to have the same map over and over. Not being able to select the map or mech, and being thrown into situations like Therma with an energy boat. Running with teams that are either refusing to work together, teamkilling and clusterf**cking, and being over run by 12 man organized mobs of assaults and heavies. Then the patches. Oh the patches......Well, here are my suggestions:
1. Private matches for smaller groups, like 1v1 up to 3v3 with the options enabled, without premium time.
Why are you charging for a feature that gives no bills or xp? This should be opened up to allow new players a chance to practice running their mechs in combat and learn tactics. This would bring you SOOOO many more players. I know of several around me that would play but are too turned off by the current game model.
2. Give us a tool to find groups in game, not making us search forums.
Dropping solo right now is freaking suicide. Trying to find a group online feels about the same. Most gamers i know any more hate forums and just want to play a game. This being a team based game, there should be an easier way, especially considering my issues mentioned in my first suggestion.
3. Balance out the buy/sell difference in pricing
buying a mech for 8 million+ and only being able to sell it for 1.5ish afterwards is a joke. I hate buying a mech and dropping a couple matches to find its nothing like what you were hoping. I also hate grinding in matches to make next to nothing due to broken weapon stats and crap match balance.
4. Give something back.
As a community, we have all gone through enough. Yes the game is "free" to play, but you seem to have a habit of just throwing up joke sales for gold mechs and fancy colors and cockpit items (still no mounted items?) Maybe a free mech chassis sans loadout, or hell, even let us have basic colors to dress up mechs without paying out the a$$.....Doing the Thunderbolt for five wins was cool and all, but after all the bull and patching/hotfixing/repatching/failing going on, there needs to be a little more. The forums are lined with people walking away from the game, don't you think it's time to get them back?
I know that PGi will most likely not see this, but i do hope that some of these suggestions make it their way and even implemented. I don't want to see this game die.

In regards to my first suggestion, if you allow private matches to be run, all options enabled, without premium time, maybe allow those WITH premium to acquire xp or bills from those matches?

Frost. That's way to exploitable. I agree that everything should be free for private games. But no C-Bills/EXP should be given for that.

That just won't happen...
Every private match are given the same server-recources as every other 12vs12 game. If you now decide, you want to play a 1vs1 or 2vs2 or something like that, you are blocking those recources for you. So if there are 12 1vs1 private matches, they (those 24 players) are blocking the recources meant for 12*24=288 players. And that's why you have to pay for it.
The second thing: If you'd allow premium users to earn C-Bills and XP in private matches, then the wait times for a game would simply explode...because many of them would be in private matches and easily farm money there...

Yeah I can see how that would happen. I was really just suggesting the premium xp thing just to be somewhat fair with my suggestion. I know that PGI needs to make some money, but I can agree with both of you on that one.
I know the resources could be an issue as well, but as the game grows the resources are going to be eaten up anyway, so maybe they should be looking at a fix for this? I wish I knew a little more about the technical aspect of that particular issue......

what about "locking a mech into a match" but still allowing people to browse the emchlab and the other mechs? Or maybe even make the Chat work, while the game is "searching" for the matchup. There is no reason why we should not be allowed to do this to kill some time. Especially chatting ingame.

i think they gave something back - i'm very happy with the free cent and thunderbolt they gave us this year so far. and i bet we all get a chance to get a free clan mech sometime this summer too just so we all get at least a taste of cold, clear and refreshing clanner punch
