In mw4 you were able to select armour type, ferro (default), reactive (anti amunition) and reflective (anti laser). Would you like to see these armour types added for more game variation?

Greetings,

Most of the 'alternative' armour does not become available for a few years yet.

Each has some protection against specific weapons types, but has additional disadvantages where weight, bulk, or other objects effect these types of protection. The two generic armour types we have now provide more all around protection for the different weapons we currently see on the battle field now.

- If the time comes, when we know what defensive types of weapons the Mech company may encounter, say in the Attack/Defend mode for Planetary assaults and defended Base's, specializing the Armour for the lead elements could provide some benefit.
- But enemy intelligence would need to be available for the attacking unit, possibly a prior mission that was conducted by Scouts to identify the bases defensive weapons types and numbers.

- The 'Reactive' or Blazer Armour provides some additional protection against specific weapons types;
~ it can reduce the effects of explosive weapons fire like missiles, artillery, and mortars. When these weapons hit a unit with Reactive Armor protecting the area, the damage is reduced by 50%.
~ Though effective against missiles and artillery, the armor is no more effective than standard armor against other weapon types and physical damage.
~ Another drawback to the armor is its bulk: Reactive Armor occupies as much space on a chassis as standard Ferro-Fibrous Armour, but only provides as much protection as standard 'Mech armor.
~ Originally designed in 3063 but enters standard production only around 3081
- A disadvantage of this armour was as the 'reactive armour' is 'used' against weapons fire it may strip away most protection of that area, leaving the Mech extremely vulnerable. (even multiple small impacts causes the same 'depletion' as massed fire on that location.)

Laser Reflective Armor - Also known as Glazed or Reflec armour.
-Laser Reflective Armor dissipates energy weapon attacks 50% more efficiently than other armor types.
~ Though the armor functions like standard armor against ballistic weapon attacks, it is very brittle. Whenever a 'Mech is physically attacked, falls, or crashes through a building, the armor is half as effective as standard or Ferro-Fibrous armor.
~ This weakness has also been observed in artillery attacks. In addition, Armour-Piecing AC ammunition, Tandem Charge missiles, and BattleTech Tasers all have a better chance of penetrating the armor and causing critical damage.
~ Like the Ferro-Fibrous armor it's based on, Laser Reflective Armor is bulkier than standard armor, and takes up ten critical slots on a 'Mech.
First created by the Inner Sphere in 3058 and the Clans engineer it in 3061.

Modular Armor - created in 3070 (far away in this timeline)

Hardened Armor - Originally created in 3045, prototypes entered service in 3047
~ this special armour could only be placed on standard Mechs, Clan Omni Mechs could not mount this armour.
~ Hardened Armor provides eight points of protection per ton. Though this is half the protection of standard armor, each point of Hardened Armor can absorb two points of damage.
~ Hardened Armor also provides better protection against special armor piercing weapons: Armour-Piercing autocannon ammunition, Tandem-Charge Missiles, and BattleMech Tasers all have their armor-piercing properties nullified. When these weapons hit a location protected by Hardened Armor, they act as standard weapons hitting standard armor (AP autocannon ammo acts as a standard AC round; Mech Tasers inflict a point of damage, and TC missiles act as standard SRMs).
~ Hardened Armor is bulky and less flexible than standard armor. This effects/reduces the Mechs movement and stability characteristics. Though capable of diverting more damage than standard armor, the increased number of armor plates and their lack of flexibility makes any unit employing it more difficult to pilot, and can affect the speed as well
~ This is the most expensive armour available and one of the drawbacks to mounting it. Costing around 15,000 C-Bills per ton.

So, when the timeline arrives these could be added to the inventory, but care would need to be taken by the Mech company, as each has specific roles and protections. Using the wrong armour in the wrong area could lead to a rather quick elimination of your Mech.

Holy smokes i did not know there were that many armor types, that would be pretty cool if they were added to the game. Thank you for sharing this information.

MW4 was in another time...somewhere in the 3060s or 3070s...we are in 3050/3051, so reactive/refelective armour doesn't exist yet...

There are even more. But all of them are time line depended - the last will apear on a 1:1 timline in 100 years :)
And thats what make me curious
