I think it means

senate was just as good
at picking viable leaders
as the majority of
current republican

Palpatine didn't acknowledge
any of the electorate
He declared himself
Emperor and built
a moon
sized super weapon called
a Deathstar
cause that's how
you roll
when you are space rich.
