We alI know and 'love' duel AC20/Gauss builds, and we may have seen theB33f's lovely t-t-t-triple gauss rifle build. But is more possible? Should such a horror be unleashed?

I was perusing this helpful man's table, and noticed that switching the Dire Wolf's A left arm onto the B variant could result in a mech with a ballistic hardpoint in both arms and both side torsos. Combined with the rule the devs mentioned whereby placing an autocannon in an omnimech's arm removes the hand and lower arm actuators (ie, an AC20 can be placed in an arm), I am left wondering if some cruel individual could actually put 4 AC20s or 4 Gauss Rifles on a single mech. I may have missed something here, anyone more familiar with the TT/what the devs have said so far?

I'm not sure if I want it to be possible.

With slots, yes, but there are other considerations:

1) Clan don't use something as crappy as an AC/20. They only use UAC/20's. thus, more weight.
2) Weight is still a limitation. UAC/20's weigh in at a massive 12 tons each. That's 48 tons before ammo.
3) Clans can't move much around. Engines are fixed sizes and heat sinks are fixed in place. This means slots can still be blocked.

While, in theory, a Dire Wolf could mount those, in practice it's not going to happen.

Besides, it's actually more effective to rack up UAC/2's and UAC/5's because of the additional range/rate of fire.

However, running 2x UAC/20 is still devastating. Putting 80 points of damage into one spot can kill most mechs outright, and will kill any mech from behind. Pretty much any damaged mech is in trouble if it runs into that config. Even a Dire Wolf only has 78 points of combined armor/torso in the center by default.

It's possible to fit 4 U-AC/20s or 4 gauss rifles into a Dire Wolf, but you would be left with only enough room for, like, 3 tons of ammo. 3 of them would be very viable, though.

The largest ballistic that you should be able to fit 4 of, and still have enough room for ammo and backup weapons, is a U-AC/10...which can all fit in the side torsos alone, btw.

So it's not even close to viable, but is still possible as a troll build? I'm okay with this.

Oh, yeah. Totally. It's actually a little less trollish than a dual AC/20 Cicada, since you can carry more ammo and don't have to strip most of your armor (or could strip armor to carry a worthwhile amount of ammo).

It's also way slower and easier to hit than the cicada.

Quad UAC20 leaves 2 tons for ammo. Not really viable. Plus, probably ghost heat.

Twin UAC20s and a pair of MG's to be obnoxious with the crit seeking right after they shred off your armor....outta be interesting!

I'm going to try this for SnG. I think ghost heat will make it nonviable, but it would be funny to rock 6x UAC/5 when a jaeger struggle with 6x ac2.

I know that 3x AC/5 on my banshee is pretty crazy. Can't wait to play around with clan configs.

If they don't ghost heat THAT, too, they're lunatics. And I'll totally do that too if they don't. I'd be a moron if I didn't.

They're going to have to. The sustained fire would be totally insane.

So, what? AC/20 triggers ghost heat at 2, AC/10 triggers at 3, AC/5 triggers at 4/5?

one clan ultra-20 > one IS ac-20. the ultra does more damage. it will do 20-40 damage per burst. push your luck and keep shooting, get lucky and you just did 40-80 in 4- 6 seconds per ultra ac-20. so 2 can do between 40 - 80 in 4-6 seconds. with 24 tones of weapons no need for HS and 2 tones of ammo. very efficient in my op.

burst fire be damned..... dead is dead.

If by "more" you mean "less". A CUAC/20 is only 12 tons.

A Daishi has 50.5 tons available:
So x4 UAC/20s is not feasible since youd only have 2 tons of ammo. The most CUAC/20s a Daishi can reasonably have is x3.

These are all feasible builds with enough ammo to run them:

x3 CUAC/20s
x3 Gauss
x4 CUAC/10s
x5 CUAC/5s

6 U-AC/5s should leave enough room for 1,200 dmg worth of ammo. That's gotta be enough, even for a 100 tonner.
