I'm going to be trying to play MW on my 15" MB Pro until I have my new battle station built.

Really looking forward to seeing what I can play on a mobile unit.

That's pretty harsh for what is mostly a civil conversation. Or you just don't know what cretin means.

Obtuse.

(redacted some crap that would only extend the butthurt)

I'll now post-postuously exchange my claim of cretinism for bunch of unhelpful meanies. Better? :)

/edit -- Only 2 or 3 posts were full of the mean, so you all who feel like you were being helpful and not chastising the OP for his choice can breathe easy.

There are glaring biases involved with computing platform discussions, and most people speak from very limited actual knowledge when comparing. As soon as the OP said "apple", dozens of eyes lit up at the prospect of some good ol' fashunned "you should have" and "haha" and "bad move" postings.

He's excited about his new purchase, it's a great computer, and I'm sorry if my calling out the nay-sayers as mostly enjoying their role of deflating his fun is offensive.

I'll now post-postuously recant my claim of cretinism for bunch of unhelpful meanies. Better? :)

It's a great computer, yes, but there are far better solutions for those with gaming in mind for less.

And it's not offensive to me, for what the OP needs it's great I suppose, although I am still a lover of good ol' Windows 7, the best thing that Microsoft has ever made. Too bad they seem to be failing with 8.

Borderlands at full resolution:

Skyrim on Ultra (though, I think this is not at the displays full resolution)

So it's doable, and it'll probably play pretty smoothly.

Trololol.

Skyrim and borderlands aren't great comparisons to cryengine 3... look at skyrims recommended specs vs mwo...But best of luck.

At the end of the day the question is not "Will this game run on my (insert computer)?" but what resolutions will the game support? Will it support 2880x1800.. will it support Eyefinity resolutions.. what resolutions is it able to support.

It should support 2560X1600, possibly 2880X1800, and according to the devs will support Eyefinity and Nvidia surround.

I use multiple operating systems and do have a MBP. Supporting the PC fans with the money you spent you could have got a better system. Supporting the Mac fans, yes it is a great laptop for mobile computing however I have to disagree with the notion that Macs do better with graphic, music, web development because there is no real difference anymore. Sure it's easier to use a Mac and programs written for Mac are more "people friendly." I hate to use this example but I prefer using MS Office on my Mac because it's UI is better than on Windows 7.

That being said, it comes down to what else M B is using his laptop for. If it's a laptop for much more than gaming, and he is more familiar with it's UI for more than gaming, more power to him. Personally I wish that they develop a Linux version of MWO because I prefer using Linux over Windows 7 or Mac OS X.

One thing I've noticed though is that MBP seems to run Windows 7 better. I've had 2 generations of MBPs and in my experience they run Windows better. Case in point my old MBP running Intel Core Duo 2 with Nvidia 9XXX GPUs boots up Windows 7 faster and runs my basic apps faster than my newer Lenovo running an I7 with an Nvidia GT 555M, and that's after a clean install on my Lenovo.

The game supporting the resolution is not the problem. The problem is that macbook pro ships with a midrange 650m. Mid range cards for the desktop (which are a good bit faster than their gimped laptop versions) don't max out demanding games at above 1080p resolution, that requires higherend video cards and often SLI, the entire point of SLI with high ends is pushing 1600p or higher resolutions.

The laptop has an amazing screen but it lacks the GPU power to push demanding titles at that resolution with good frame rates. There is no way getting around that. Of course having a higher end laptop GPU (670m or 680m) would royally screw up that form factor and still probably coun't push that resolution.

Props for this lovefest (in comparison to other platform-related threads). Really considerate and measured for the most part and sans vitriol.

On GPU: I think that the GPU is my only worry for running this on my MBP.

Even if 2880x1800 won't work (either not supported or not enough FPS), you can still run it at 1440x900 instead without interpolation, and that's still a very common and perfectly workable resolution for a 15" screen.

harsh truth for 2k+ laptop a mac its just... a waste of money at this time, any pc laptop can do what a mac does, aside for that im getting one of those and i will force a dual boot (not bootcamp a real dual boot), just for the sake of having windows, and play some games on my free time while im not programing for iphone or mac (hate the fact that im getting that laptop just because apple doesnt want to make a PC version of xcode).

and the GT <-! 650 is pretty much meh even with the keppler architecture, i have an Asus g75 and i love it, great rig for the money not the best but its what i wanted (i didnt wanted a 2 inch tick laptop), and ... runs cool as fk (43 C under heavy load fk yeah)

TL:DR

IT WILL RUN THE GAME just not the best machine to do it

and APPLE SKS

All of you bashing on the Macbook Pro Retina are being very narrow minded, or you just can't yet afford a machine like that and are envious.

When you become adults and your priorities change you might see the value, the Macbook Pro Retina has a unique combination of "best in class" features. It has best in class build quality, keyboard, trackpad, IPS high res display and very good battery life(6~7hrs for this machine is much above avg), all of this while still being a portable laptop. It might be too expensive, but it also has a combination of features that no PC offers.

btw, I grew up using Linux, I'm not biased towards Apple in any way.

It runs fine on my retina mbp, but plays a lot better on my editing machine
27 inch slimline imac
core i7
32gb ram
3tb hybrid storage

runs 2560x1440 with everything turned to very high at 50-60fps. good enough for breaks when I'm not working on my photo stuff

of note: it seriously craps its pants when I try to enable multiple monitors/screen spanning in any 3d game (not surprising) - I have 2x27 inch apple displays hooked up, each with a res of 2560x1440. If I could run the game with all 3 screens and proper screen spanning, my life would be complete. My "gaming" pc is faster, but the color accuracy of the imac as well as the drama-free quiet operation of the imac means I take my MWO breaks on it most of the time :(
