The way Mechwarriors are treated in MWO is puzzling. Are we intended to be a single, incredibly rich Solaris champions who owns a stable of his own Battlemechs? Do we represent a lance (or company, or battalion) of 'mechs from our faction? Are we just faceless pilots playing endless team deathmatch with no real depth or character?

In order to avoid the latter option, I suggest MWO embrace the concept that each Battlemech in our stable has its own Mechwarrior. Allow us to create a stable of characters - our Mechwarriors - who pilot these giant death machines. In order to support this, I'd like to see PGI add the following features:
  • Allow each Mechwarrior to be named (and have a faction-specific random name generator)
  • Allow each Mechwarrior to gain Rank in their faction/mercenary unit, which could unlock certain consumables.
  • Allow Mechwarriors from Clan factions only single names, and add the ability to earn a Bloodname to CW.
  • A selection of Mechwarrior portraits, with some faction-specific options.
  • Optionally, add a selection of Mechwarrior 3D models, most of whom would be purchasable for MC.
  • Mechwarrior-specific skill trees, with 'mech specific options, and mutually exclusive options.
  • Allow each Mechwarrior to gain individual Achievements.
  • Allow each Mechwarrior to keep a personal History of the worlds they've fought over in Community Warfare.
  • Optionally, allow Mechwarriors to select a different faction; so a player could have a House Davion Victor and a Clan Diamond Shark Kit Fox, if they wished.
  • Optionally, allow Mechwarriors to 'promote' to a different Battlemech through Community Warfare events (such as being in the force that takes the Earthwerks factory, for example). Their previous 'mech is now assigned to a newly created Mechwarrior ...

-Note that pilot specific skill trees would require the abandonment of the current 'three variants to master' skill system. This system has never fit Mechwarrior lore and can easily be replaced with a variety of better options - and would allow us to get 'single variant' mechs like Enforcers.

-Ranking up and adding skills to each individual pilot would add yet more character to a given Mechwarrior. Colonel Sir John Smith, my Commando -2D pilot, has been around since I started playing and is quite the hotshot mech driver, while Corporal Sam Smith and his fearsome Orion has a more powerful 'mech, but lacks the history of the old Colonel.

Really your first point should be the way it is in game. Each mech should be super tough to get, i mean really really tough....

They made it possible for each player to get so many mechs simply because lack of other game content. No insult, thats just the way it is.

Really there should have been like 40 maps with in/out of mech pilots and places to go, star maps, aerotech etc, then make each mech worth like 50 mill creds or something huge to go along with the game story that each mech was worth more than its weight in gold and a serious asset on the field, and a extremely serious point of pride to the pilot if you know what i mean. In the original game a mechwarrior lost a mech, it was unlikely he would ever get another for instance, some handed down through inheritance, others found hidden or abandoned and restored to working order, many cool stories. This way of going about mech ownership vision is the original BT really.

Anyway i can see the topics point, but really hope it doesnt go that way for tons of reasons.

Again like faction wars and clan balancing and some other mechwarrior online game mechanics that are complicated to do, i wish the game builders luck in doing a good job of making this game really great.

To really run with this idea, who knows maybe the guys that have 10 mechs will be considered super tycoons some day rofl

I can't really agree. Even with a fully fleshed out world, being restricted to a tiny stable of 'mechs would kill this game.

A little more investment would be nice, though. Maybe if we could pick one mastered 'mech out of a group or weight class to represent one we 'fully' own, one that your warrior would take with them if they ever decided to go their own way, or pass down like an heirloom. Maybe you could add your own coat of arms or symbol to one of these, to make it special.

I dunno about having a stable of pilots- but I would like to change what my pilot looks like.
