I was reading the vlog #4 transcript, and I noticed that there was a problem getting participation in public test. Would it be feasible to add an option to the client to go into test mode as well as leaving PTS up for larger windows?

It just seems to me that the current public test implementation is a little cumbersome, which might be contributing to low participation.

The PTS low user issue is PGI's own. They only turn the server on for a day or two at a time with severely limited hours, 2 or 3 hours usually, and seem unwilling to veer from that course.

Letting people know about the Public Test in the Cliant would help a lot. There are people that never come to the forums or fallow the game on other Social Media.

I dont know why PGI is acting surprised that public test participation is low.

1. The server is not up 24/7 (as it should be)

2. Players are not informed via email that there is a public test, i dont even know if there are ingame notifications or anything that there is one.

3. The public test operates for a very limited time only during (presumably) canadian business hours, which basically excludes everyone who is working or in a non-compatible time zone

4. Past attempts to provide feedback from public tests (see : UI 2.0 and the matchmaking fiasco) have basically resulted in no acknowledgement from PGI and the test version going live to predictable results. Once people realised this, they stopped bothering to give feedback.

^So true^...this point has been made multiple times... I've complained about it myself in posts.

How can PGI expect reasonable participation in public test events when they hardly give 48 hours notice of extremely short windows during the working week? They need to re-engineer their public test process / equipment / etc to allow for full weekend events, give ADVANCED notice (maybe even have regularly scheduled events monthly? Seems there's more than enough to test out...), and give some sort of incentive to those who participate!!! I'm sure they'd see a good return on investment.

Test server participation is low because PGI does not listen when people say, "UI 2.0 is garbage".

No doubt, I was mainly trying to suggest ways to correct the issue. I know that what you have outlined is exactly why I have never participated.

Yeah, really.

I have it installed, I was hoping I could log into it to try out clan mechs or something...if they were there.

However, im sure after 3 or 4...or 50 times trying to log in and it saying...acct not authorized, players give the hell up.

Its PGI fault for that entirely.

Then they only leave it up for certain times of the day....soooo...

You know, the lack of information and the short time allotted could be entirely by design on PGI's part.

I doubt I need to go into why... ;)

Ya...have they even done public tests since the like 2 hour ui 2.0 test failure in which no feedback was taken into account (like the whole social system in a full online game is just some ******* 3 lines of code place holder and there are even more boxes to press "ok I really do want this" on and no auto-refill on consumables etc... Tiny things, that take minimal time and effort). Well I guess they did finally add a toggle to remove beeps.....................THANK GOD SO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT IS BEING PUT INTO 3-3-3-3 including a rewrite of the matchmaking code which will need to be rewritten again for community warfare (trust me there will be more going backwards again when they need to actually do it properly for cw...

Just take a leaf out of smites book, give mechbay or something to people who complete 10 matches on it or something.

THIS! Last few times they trotted out the Public Test servers, those of us who participated told PGI, "Hey now, there's some big issues here" and PGI said, "No, you're stupid and don't know what you're talking about, everything is going to be fine."

...right
