That's why it would be nice if we had public lobbies/rooms...
I think it boils down to what you're most comfortable in.
My KDR in Jenners, Firestarters and Cicadas is higher than my KDR in Hunchies and Cataphracts.
I'm better in above average speed mechs and it shows in my stats, the lighter chassis have (mostly) higher average damage per match as well.
A perfect example are my Orions. Three move at 70kph and have positive W/L and KDR, whereas my -VA moves at ~65kph and has negative stats.
At least we have the private lobbies now, just need to find people willing to duel.

Looking at my stats for example on my ember I've played 9 games, 0 kills and 4 deaths. Might be that looks terrible but I've twice had 12 assists and 10 assists in another game. Six of my games have been wins but from purely a KDR ratio I have 0.00

Well in battle I just try my best for the team, shooting the ennemy when I see them.
Trying to stop the attempt to flank us, try to survive but staying at the front line. I am not a professionnal, heck I could lost to an urbanmech in a Dire Wolf (actually I did on Megamek.)
I simply play, try to win but not forgeting the priority.
Having fun.
Thaaaatt'sss whyyyy.
I'm listening heavy metal music, Brony music, and lot's of other kind of music when I fight. =3
My cockpit is a really noisy place!
And right now. I'm playing with THAT music.

That is a better indicator of how you are doing compared to how well you do in PUG matches where you will never see a consistency in player ability.

In OB i started with 0,9 and topped at 2,3 an went down since ELO to currently 1,42...
Imho the best K/D is a measurement of Fun vs Bum Matches and as long the Fun exceeds the Bum everything is good

lights are the easiest to get good K/D with, at least for me
It really depends how you play. Factors are like: Do you happen to drop in many Conquest games and you do the light's role of capping there? You get alot of 0-1 kill games (but can make several wins, if your team plays accordingly and you have 2-3 more lights with you). Are you a scout that engages soon too or tries to keep targets locked? You'll probably die faster. Are you mostly winging heavier mechs with a Jenner or go wolfpack? Then you probably get much more kills. If you are PUG and sneaking and only pick on the critically damaged, you can steal alot of kills with a good alpha strike... and so on.
PS: I just looked at my detailed stats and saw, that most of the deaths that push the ratio below 1 are my failures in heavier chassis, while all my lights (but the Oxide) are above 1.0. I don't know why, but dropping in a heavy or medium mech equals suicide for me...

That is not true, because if you win or lose a match is totally a matter of luck in this game.
The more you believe that the more true it becomes.
Play like you want to be the difference maker and you will get better and win more.

In the end the one i want most is the win but theres too many factor out of my control to even consider the win ratio as a measure so i went to kill ratio but when i lose game with 6 kills i dont feel better, so now i judge my playing by the camo i wear and let me tell you i always win.

W/L Ratio of 1.11 (156/140)
Doesn't count archived stats which drag those numbers down, but current stats measure how I'm doing now better so that's what I'm using.
The thing is, I do not go for kills. I go for wins. If that means I take one for the team, as long as my team is taking advantage of my getting blasted? I'm good. If I'm going down, chances are my lancemates I play with are hitting the guy taking me down. And his buddies. If my well-timed push--supported by my team, obviously--means I die under concentrated fire while my team shreds the opposition? I did my job.
If my spotting/Tagging for the LRM boats gets me less damage and kills? I did my job.
If my Atlas or Stalker absorbs a huge amount of enemy fire and someone wastes their last AC20 shot on me trying to get that last kill when I'm already neutered with no guns left? I did my job.
If I deliberately walk into their face and screw up their line of fire while my allies move to flank and they waste a shot on me when I'm as good as dead anyway, that's one less shot my friends have to take. I died FOR the team. I did my job.
If my ECM protects my team and my mech has less guns on it so I get less kills? I did my job,
Ignore your KDR. It's irrelevant. There are dozens of ways to be an asset to your team. If you did your job well and supported your team, you are either a good player, or a good player in the making.
If you focus on getting your kills, you are a lone wolf, a rogue. And under those circumstances I do not care if you could kill 12 mechs every match all by yourself--you are no longer an asset to your TEAM. And this is a team game.
Ignore your KDR.
Focus on playing your role in your team's path to victory.

I actually dump all my stats into a google doc spreadsheet and it makes pretty graphs for me that show W/L, K/D, Damage/Match, Damage/Kill, Damage/Death, XP/Match.

I have a great simulator K/D of whopping 0.25. Amazing I know. How do they even let me pilot a mech? I tell you what, you don't get bounced from one outfit to another on sheer looks alone. I have had several lance commanders take a look at my SimLog and say "No way, give him a rifle and stick him with the PBI". Anyhow, stats don't mean much when you are actually on a drop, I may be scrap in a simulator but the real deal when it comes to bacon and hot pans when you need it. Then again the 20th AG wouldn't have bumped me and left me for dispossessed if I hadn't busted up a few of their white paint jobs. Good thing I still had some buddies on that merchant dropship and a tech who didn't mind going for a ride around the Sphere...
Mechwarrior Woolf signing off...
