However I don't do it in a light, I do it in a medium, being fast and having narc, and lrms on the same mech is priceless.

Sure it has five less lrms then a typical lrm medium, but those lrms are so much more effective for only being fired at narced targets, its the one lrm boat where you never have to worry about locks.
besides poptarting someone with a narc, then raining lrms on them till it runs out at times will enrage a team so much that the whole lot of them will charge out of cover at you.
Other bonuses of this playstyle.
Teaches hit n run tactics.(incase you wanna be a regular medium later.)
Teaches aiming and poptarting abilities.
Never ever fear an light again if there are friendly lrm boats, narc them and chase them with your 3 medium laser.

no energy slot wasted on that horrible tag laser.
makes good money.( a lil spotting money ontop of the easy to get lotsa assists lrm effect)
A easy starter mech, as you can lrms for lotsa assist and not feel discouraged by failing horribly again and again like most new players do, but it also has the ability to practice most of the other playstyles.
A question to anyone else that narcs, how many narc assists do you typically get, i've noticed i only seem to get 1 narc assist per a narc fired, and thats not even guaranteed, often i will narc 6-10 of the enemy mechs, keeping a narced target for most of the game, but find i only got 3 narc beacon assist in the whole game.

Not interested in the "LRMs are easy" debate, but I gave the OP's suggestion a try. The first match was epic and I got tons of assists; the next five or ten games I barely felt like I mattered. Do the OP or any others have some suggestions on how to shine in this role?
Well ill give you what i can.
Never narc more then one target, or if you do try to narc the second right when the first narc is going to run out.
Try not to risk yourself, narcs spread out through the match are more useful the one narc quickly aquired.
Target ecm mechs first, especially lights.(unless its a urban map, then thats sortof pointless.)
Pick enimeis that don't have immediate lrm cover to hand.
Inform you team in chat you will be narcing, then the lrm boats will be looking for your narcs.(you can even use target calling macro in my sig to call the narced targets)
Biggest tip, while narcing works decent in pugs, it is excellent in a premade team where you know you will have atleast 2 lrm boats.
Downsides to this playstyle.
No lrm boat matches.
Derp lrm boat matches, you see some derpy lrm 60 Artemis stalkers who never fire at anything unless there tagging it themselves and its in there los... .despite the fact that a narc is a much larger bonus.
... or lrm boats who ignored narced targets in favor of shooting at other tempoary locks.
