Title of topic says it all- +1T and 1 more slot really adds up for SRM heavy brawler builds. Is it worth it? Is SRM4+Art > than SRM6?

It's hard to tell due to the registration problems inherent to SRMs, but in general I'd say yes for SRM6 and no for SRM4/2.

Generally, you take SRM2/4 without Artemis, and SRM6 with Artemis. Artemis is also needed if you also have streaks or LRMs. You can, of course, go without when only adding SRMs as backup to heavier weapons.

Yes, my dedicated LRM boat uses artemis, and it is a no-brainer upgrade with SSRM's.

More specifically, I'm debating merits of artemis on a 3 LRM6 Highlander that is tight on both crits and weight. Would need to downgrade and AC10 to AC5, or one of my erLL's to ML + loose a heatsink.

Maybe a better question is, assuming chain fire, are 2 SRM6 w/ Artemis as good as 3 SRM6 without?

I have a Jager-A with 4xSrm4 and 2xErLL (I know...but it actually gets great results)

No artemis - it's hard to squeeze another 4 tons without going XL and since i'm infighting, I kind of need the durability.

However - In my opinion it's fine without, because I think the Srms are more of a general purpose armour stripper than a precision instrument. When the armour has been peeled I use the lasers for more targeted strikes.

If you are using more than one SRM and you count on it as a primary weapon or a high damage weapon, such as dual SRM 6, then Artemis is definitely recommended. It tightens up your missile group very nicely. With single SRMs I don't bother.

Artemis is pretty much essential for LRMs since it reduces lock time by half, but for SRMs it's take it or leave it - i would say if you'r an SRM sniper it's worth it to tighten the grouping for far shots, but if you shoot mostly close in it's not really necessary

Personally, I try to tack on Artemis on every build with more than an SRM10. I find that I can take more shots in the 100-200m range and still deal respectable damage. Another way to look at it: if your preferred (or usual :D) engagement range is 100-200m, then you should strongly consider Artemis.

I agree that on 2's and 4's it isn't really necessary, but on 6's it's very useful, especially if you have more than one as a primary weapon like Storm said. I have a Hunchback build that has 5 ML and dual SRM6 with Artemis that brawls well. When you get in close, you can pack a lot of damage into a small area, and it extends the effective range by tightening the spread. I'm excited for the upcoming tweaks to SRM's because I'll have reason to dust that 'mech off and use it again :D

I was using 2 x SRM6 and 2 x SRM4 on my timber wolf and would definitely recommend artemis for both, but maybe not if you use SRM2.
