STG-3R Stinger
1 Medium laser
2 machine guns
I posed the mech to match the reference art!
Note: Do not mind the laser in the left-forearm, it isn't going to be on the final model.

I love the re-seen designs of the Wasp/Stinger compared to the Original TRO. I'll need to get back to this model soon, it is a beauty I think.

Overall I look at the new Stinger design vs older TRO, the new one in my opinion looks more mechanical with ball/socket joints etc. But I do understand people's love for the old TRO designs, aka Marauder, Rifleman, those two mechs look better with the old TRO art, but the new Marauder looks awesome. The new Rifleman, not so much! haha

I totally agree about the quality of the old TRO drawings. They are beyond horrendous in all cases. I guess when I think about 'functional' I try to get past the failings of the TRO art. If you imagine the overall form and shape of the Mech, without the failings of detail in the artwork, then at this point, I find a great deal of love for the simple design. For me where the new Stinger falls short is in this form, it does not quite capture the essence of the Singer, the same goes for the Phoenix Hawk and such, some, but not all of the Project Phoenix re-designs lost touch with that 'simple form'. We started to see more 'less functional' detailing influences from different anime. I guess what I am trying to say is for me Battletech was always that fine line between 80's Mecha design which was in turn influences by the military technology of the time, and a still very cold war mindset.
Throughout the succession wars in the books and lore of the Battletech we're always having our imagination reminded about the technology loss, the simple, cobbled back together hulking, walking tanks. I feel some of the redesigns lose touch with this somewhat, and have influences from more modern Mecha designs and trends, which, to me, seems to jar slightly with the older.
I guess at the end of the day I might just be personal preference. I understand the designs have to modernise, and stay current to newer and newer generations of fans. I'm not against redesigning the old Battlemechs. In fact, I'd love to see them all redesigned for MWO. But it needs to have some of the 'heart and soul' of what made Battletech, it's lore, and the influences of that lore, along with the influences of the day, define the Battlemechs to a degree at least.

I totally agree with your last statement about the MW:O sporting new 'fresh' look. I don't think all mechs would need a total overhaul, but there are some, like the jenner, that needed some love and FD will continue to do amazing things with these designs!
I'd like to see his Stinger design.
Has anyone tried to do a model of his concepts yet?

Although looking back up at that frontal just above as reading your post, I could actually imagine the disclosed Hunchers cockpit up there. Pretty cool just looking R/L thru the side of your head like Hunchies AC.
#2: Got to love you guys who can do these renders.
