I've played the fraction mode a few times. And here a few issues i consider important.

Those map have no defensive layout, as if there are no military strategist.
Across all ages, when a defence position was decided, the military would modify/adjust the terrain to create choke points to help defenders. Ex.: The doors would be the first choke point followed by 200-400m of completely flat land with nothing the attacker could use to hide and avoid getting shot or have to opportunity to split and attack from multiple sides, except using more then 1 door at once. After the flat land, a semi-circle of wall with a few holes would be setup for the defender to use to shoot from relative safety until the attacker manage to overtake their positions.
From medievale era to todays battlefield, the defender have always adapted the terrain to gain some kind advantage when protecting a known high value target.

Also, the placement of turrets are really bad, they have trouble shooting target while getting easily destroyed. Once again, those would need to be changed to promote a higher defensive stance.

This is only my personnal opinion, but with the high level of technology they have, making changes to terrain is not something i consider would be difficult or even long to create. And would make the battlefield a more realistic one.

Yes, that would make the attackers job harder, but isnt that the point of defending, to create a place where the attackers have no choice but to follow the path that as been decided and build by the military strategist. They have build orbital cannons but cannot create a defensive position where keeping them safe is easier is a bit illogical.
