With 55 mechs I've finally become content with the ones I have (mainly mediums). Since the stat reset I've dropped in 37 different mechs yet over half of my drops come from 5 mechs. Griffin-1N, Wolverine-6R, Banshee-3E, Grid Iron and Shadowhawk-2H.

And I kind of hate that the Banshee is on that list. I 8/8ed two of them and lost the desire to finish. I never even bought the third one. I'm just bad at assault mechs. But 50ish tonners running around at 90-110kph? Yes please, all day.

Similar. My outlier is the Orion VA and Jager DD. But otherwise it is almost all Griffin with a sprinkling of SHD and WVR-6R action. Piss on meets, and I couldn't be happier (barring closed beta core mechanics returning and poptarts getting a old Nerf)

Yea, I mastered 2 of the Banshees. I sold off the 3M when I got it to 8/8.

Only BNC I still use is La WUBinche. The rest are too clumsy to remotely enjoy.

Fewest number of variants in the game except for the Wolverine, but that just came out not long ago. Could we get some Griffin love please?

Wolverines and Griffins came out at the same time.

Plasma Rifle

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Plasma_Rifle

Despite ammo use, it's classified as an energy weapon. In that regard, it's similar to chemical lasers - it fires an energy based attack fueled by "ammo".

It is also arguably one of my favorite late-era weapons and BECAUSE it counts for energy, most MWO Griffins could make good use of it.

The only assaults I drive are Misery and some Victors (not Dragon Slayer).

For heavies I take JagerFB/DD and Quickdraw-5K,

technically, the Plasma Rifle is a ballistic....it's just shooting flaming styrofoam packing peanuts at you!

Table top classifies it as an energy weapon. Yes, it uses ammo. I'd be curious as to whether PGI would class it as Energy or Ballistic, or allow it in either.

Or make it require 1 Energy and 1 Ballistic in one location and a Plasma Rifle would occupy both.

That's just overly restrictive for something that's just a PPC/flamer hybrid from a game mechanics standpoint. (With only large laser range, and requires ammo.)

I disagree. While there are only some mechs you could use it on already: Firebrand, Blackjack-1, Hunchback-4H, Cataphract-1X/3D. And any future released mechs that came with a Plasma Rifle would be designed accordingly anyway.

edit: After thinking more maybe you're right. But at least it'd be something different.

I like my griffin 3M with artemis equiped srm4's (3x) and a srm6. jumping around firing glorious missiles of death at 100 kph.

I also feel like this mech doesn'y need ballistics as that you just give people more reason to join the meta plague.

Well, 1d6 heat per hit- but yes. It's the perfect weapon for messing with anyone riding the heat line, like the common TSM-equipped designs of the era. It and the plasma cannon would be horrific pieces of work in MWO. Of course, that means the heat part would be nerfed into uselessness, but this IS PGI we're talking about here.

I longingly await the Hero Griffin, but would love to see a few variants added like the other PHX pack Mechs got.
My current stable:
GRF-1N "il Fianchetto"

(thanks for the help making it work, Sparks!)

In game model modified to my dream "Hero"
After 53 matches since stat reset have a 3.43 WLr and 3.60 KDr, so I am very fond of it, as one might imagine.

My GRF-3M "Crimson Dynamo"

concept art repaint

and in game model
Gets killed more, being an in-fighter and hunter, but it makes for a fun switch from the SHD meta.

and my GRF-1S I use as my main mech in Stock Mech Matches.

So yes, you could say I share your Griffin enthusiasm.

How did you make ur top griffin skin? it looks hella nice. I wanna use that overall model and color scheme on my mechs.

Except Red, black and gold, or silver.

While Sparky is a bit of a one-trick pony, I feel a balisitic Griffin is even more a betrayal of the chassis. What else to do, a missile heavy Griff with two barrels around the head Axman style would be a wildly different look...

I just outlined the color channels I wanted in gimp, used colorify. Shifted to desired tones (for the black, i just darkened the grey a lot using brightness/contrast tool). Then added emblems and shadows. I don't understand layer masks and stuff though, so Sparks Murphy was kind enough to do the finish product, hence it's superior finish to the Red one.
