There's no way, I was killed by myself and I have all my armour, and yeah.. no...

Yup... didn't notice the armor on the back. :)

This has happened to me multiple times in my oxide. I'm not anywhere near the boundary and I kill myself with streaks. At a guess, the game has put my fired streaks inside my mech instead of shooting them on the outside. It's definitely very frustrating when it happens.

I've had a similar experience with my CDA-3M on Alpine Peaks, except for the bit about not overheating.

About 10 seconds in, had not fired, had not been fired on.
Betty tells me my heat level is critical, and I start hearing all the associated noises with being really hot.
Automatic shutdown engages, still hearing the noises and I can't power back up. Oddly enough, I'm not taking damage from it.
I managed to override while shut down (not even sure if that's normally possible), and then explode due to the damage I took while powered up.

Given that, I'm more willing to believe OP's interpretation of the experience, rather than a paper doll not updating on death.

Unless more people have actually had something like this happen, I'm inclined to believe it is hardware failure (say, just the right bits flipped and it was not detected or corrected) or some really deep race condition.

was the daring one on the enemy team, if so you might have been a victim of his ability to kill people with no damage.

So I'm in my Jenner and I'm camping out near the tunnel in the forest map, when... POW! Engine Destroyed! I still have full armor on my torso!
No, I didn't over heat.
No, I'm clearly within the map boundaries.
I may have said the lords name in vain....Posted Image

Using a CTF-3D this happened to me last night.
Dead like i hit override but didn't.
I really didn't give it too much attention though... but as I was reading this, I wanted to say this happened to me too.
Why it happened, what are the causes for this? No idea.

My guess would be that you were stuck on some invisible map entity and got collision damage to the engine or something in that way... but normally you know when you get stuck... weird.

I have had times where I died with out my armored being pierced or any internal damage. Was getting hit by LRM 10s on frozen and decided to take cover, game stuttered for two seconds and I just dropped dead with only modrate damage to armor.

There are also times where I have seen a six small laser jenner one shot a fresh high lander with a run by glancing blow and kill him without doing more then six points of damage to his armor.

Did not noticed how common it was though....while still rare.

As has been stated before on the first page, you died when out of bounds. Death due to being out of bounds is registered as a self kill, and it automatically cores you when the timer runs out.

There are spots on this map and a few others were the boundary is not properly marked. The big red OUT OF BOUNDS message does not always show on your HUD, nor does Betty tell you. I believe this is what happened to you.

Terrible performance aside (on an Atlas variant I don't like much), this is the most bewildering death for me. :P

I was running a standard engine, and as you can see from the screenshot, my torsi are still intact. There was an ammo explosion, but the ammunition was contained by CASE. I'm pretty much in the caldera, so well within bounds.

EDIT: I'm suspecting it's lag, though. Ever since the patch the game has been rather bad on the lag aspect for me. Likely a client-side issue, but who knows? :P

In one of the lords vs SJR in run hot or die, a similar thing happened to one of the SJR pilots. There are out of bounds areas that are in bounds but give no warning. It's a bug, if you can isolate it maybe make a bug report.

If you got a flashing out of bounds warning, and Bitchin' Betty said out of bounds, you died out of bounds.

A nice clean death is out of bounds death style.

Keep game volume on, and pay attention.

Always have F9 on so you can report a possible bug in your location.
