Serious asking. Never head of the stuff until today and the total lack of tingle from that bit of news makes me curious what I'm missing.
Thanks

Because now you can leave your torso pointing in one direction... and look in another! Your situational awareness will improve dramatically.

Negative. I use it and have used it with one monitor for seven years. I've even used it with a CRT that has a fresnel lens attached to it for depth perception.

Not at all. It will add a tremendous amount of situational awareness to a single monitor setup.
You can calibrate it so that it requires minimal head movement to free-look around your screen.

But, would you not get the most effective use with a trip setup? You could almost go one to one movement with that setup and keep your eyes focus on where you truly want to look.

Trust us. It becomes like second nature. After a while you'll forget you are even using Track IR.

With MWO it's , mostly likely, not as useful as say a flight sim , but still useful to some degree. Also very cool.
Cheers.

problem is that TIR does a great job on SIMs, where is not a fast pace point and shoot.
With Flight Sims is excellent, a must - With ARMA is really useful... With MWO? I am not that excited about it.
MWO is far from being a SIM and community pushed this game to possibly become faster and faster. Adding the head movement can become very confusing when it comes to look clearly at your crosshair.
Also, UNFORTUNATELY, there are many players out there who in the name of "competition" are spoiling visual effects on this game to gather more "effectiveness" - you know, putting all of the video setting on LOW so to be able to not have fog or other crap and being able to see one side of the map to the other side with no issues...
So, adding "more immersion" is sorta cool, but you will be stomped probably more and more from all of the other "competitive pilots" who choose to NOT have any immersion and just spoil the graphic.
In short, i will probably try TIR on this game because I already have it.
I will probably NOT use it on a common basis and i would not suggest anyone to buy it if you do not plan to use it on other games.
It s almost like to say, "buy a $500 HOTAS to play MWO". .. It s just not working for this game.

While I completely agree that the competitive scene is ruining this game's chances of ever becoming an immersive mech combat sim by demanding that every immersion element be optional, I think having the ability to free-look without having to press a key is extremely helpful.
I free-look all the time to check my sides when sprinting across open areas and just in general to get a better idea of what's going around me. Being able to do this just by tilting/turning my head slightly will be a welcomed addition.

In MWO, you look at blank screens and the game isn't really a sim anyways with the hud on your screen, so its not really good for situational awareness like you need in a FPS sim like ARMA or flight sims like IL-2 or DCS.
I have Track IR 5 myself, but I definitely don't see myself using it for MWO.
