I'm usually rather supportive of PGI's halfass attempts at making MWO at semi-decent game.
But.. this is A LITTLE SILLY. I cannot see any mighty Clan warrior striding into battle with two doofus boxes hotglued to the sides of his cockpit. Not only do they look.. obscene, but those sounds are TERRIBLE. Who.. who would want to hear that.. ever??

Come to think of it, are the 'meep meep' and 'YEEHA!' sounds from the Looney Tunes cartoons still protected by copyright? A lot of those cartoons are in the public domain, right?

I'd LOVE to have THOSE as a warhorn sound, especially if I could play them at will (on a timer, to prevent spammage. Say once every 5 minutes, or even once per game would be fine).

Yes, you are right when you say "immersion" is a easy using word as it is relative to the observer in a certain degree. However, immersion is also a cultural aspect and if put in context, making assertions about it is quite legitimate and should not provide that much ambiguity in it's interpretation. So, you can assume by default that immersion breaking is related to something that doesn't fit in the context or theme. For instance, in my POV, while dog tags, hanging bullets, house banners, are acceptable in a battlemech cockpit, things like Lava Lamps, fans, disco balls, do not. Warhorn visual representantio fall into that second category in my opinion as well.
