Okay so.. after going to my profile data and then weapon stats.. I calculated the amount of average damage done for the pinpoint weapon systems, and it's definitely not accurate.

AC/20: 2551 hits; 52,016 total damage = 20.39 avg damage
PPC: 8,469 hits; 84,539 total damage = 9.98 avg damage
ER PPC: 56 hits; 620 total damage = 11.07 avg damage
AC/5: 5,650 hits; 29,579 total damage = 5.24 avg damage
Gauss: 1,084 hits; 17,274 total damage = 15.9 avg damage

Lasers are of course about half damage since I am always firing them when enemy is within reach but.. I hit enemies out at 400 meters with the AC/20 early on in matches, so that clearly isn't 20 damage, and I shoot lights and big things on alpine past 1000m with PPCs... and that's definitely not where 10 damage should be dealt. I'm not here to complain about data.. just surprised.

I remember one time I took an AC40 in the side torso of my SHD, which I had just turned the front ST armor to 40, and after taking the hit I had yellow internals. So clearly autocannons have a bit of splash damage.. but PPCs and Gauss, too? I always saw mechs turn slightly yellow from grazing shots, but didn't think it would actually matter? Or perhaps the damage system does not correctly account for the range of each shot taken?

Anyways, just pointing this probable error in calculations. Just go to your profile and check the weapon stats to see it. Lasers are fine, and SRMS possibly, what with their damage changes and splash.

And yes, I'm looking at "CURRENT" weapons data since the stat refresh.

With regards to damage, ammo explosions and additional damage caused by crits (of which the MG benefits greatly from) are added to said values.

That is why AC20s will never really be 20 damage, but 20.x damage and so on for other ballistics+PPCs.

surely PPCs aren't always having added crit damage or causing ammo explosions, are they?

Some weapon stats are not updating correctly, both in damage done and number of matches played as far as I can tell . I posted about this on the website support section on April 28th:

This is the reply I received in that thread:

We are currently investigating this now. We'll let you know the outcome.

I have not heard anything since, nor have the weapon stats started working properly for me yet. YMMV.

Welp, ammo explosions ftw for that AC/20... the rest of my stats are fishy though.

They crit just as well as ballistics. In fact, FLD weapons have a BIG advantage in this category as well. If you hit a target with 9 armor with a PPC, they will take 1 IS damage. If they roll a crit, that item will take a full 10 damage for a crit, destroying anything but an AC20, even though only 1 damage went through the armor. On top of this, 15% of crit damage is tranfered back to the IS.

So, if you roll a 3 space crit, you can deal an extra 30*.15=4.5 damage to the mech, which brings you to 5.5 damage dealt to the IS, even though only 1 damage actually hit the internal structure.

This damage is also counted in the stats. As is ammo explosions.
