This might be odd to ask on here, but was wondering if any else had this. This is not accessed by anyone but me. Never goes on any public sites except youtube for music (white zombie ect.. for some light speed pumping lol) while playing. Is only used to play a couple game I frequent and TS/vent. Basicly just gaming as I have another to do whatever.

For the the last 10 years have never had a virus on any my game rigs due to using them just for that. However every since I have downloaded the test server I have had 3 attacks. 3 times in a row within an hour of playing the test server have locked up my pc. Same virus each time doing the same thing. Current AV didnt see it so had to find one that would. But wasnt hard to find and work through.

Not trying to cause a panic, point fingers, or say what is causing it. But was wondering if ANY one else had had something similar happen.

Been using AVG forever, think since it came out. However have never had an issue due to the limited use of this PC. Just found it odd that have never had one and all 3 times have been within an hour of the last 3 testserver sessions. ***Like I said said, Im not saying one has to do with the other, just wondering if anyother have had an issue.

Is it up to date? And are you absolutely sure that it is running?

Some infections might disable AV's and prevent them from starting up. This can often be seen in the msconfig "services" tab.

Ya up to date. Got it sorted, just trying to figure out where it came from. Only thing on this thing is gaming and tunning programs for my race bikes. The list of places it came from can be counted on one hand.

Do you check your email on the computer as well? Darn near anything can give a virus really...websites, 'specially ****, downloads, installations, lack of security on the router/firewall, etc. Really the list is endless, nailing down the culprit is probably not as simple as you think. It is also possible the virus has been hiding dormant for a while and you just now noticed the symptoms. It may have decided to attach itself to the recently downloaded executable file and run incognito, I dunno.

I know I'm not an expert, but I do know the only safe computer is an unconnected computer without human contact at all.

No on email. Have a seperate cpu and monitor on desk just for it. May sound odd, just started doing it like that years ago when I was doing tournaments. My game pc was dedicated for nothing more. Drives my wife nuts that she cant get on it lmao.

*took a hit durning a storm and had to replace network card. Since no others had had issue, thinking it may have been from a bad driver. But something in the game (test server) deff sets it in motion. Maybe the low FPS angers it lmao!

Just connecting a computer to the internet puts you at risk of a virus trying to get access through a network port. Pretty much all communication on the net is "in the open" - that is everyone around sees who the author and intended recipient of a data packet are - and as such means they can add you to a list of "potential targets".

Sounds like a bug where the game server keeps sending you data after you've left a match and exited the client. Your anti-virus/firewall thinks the incoming data packets are some kind of attack.

Have you contacted MWO support?

1st, what was the name of the virus and what file did it affect?

2nd, If it was the game exe, then the exe from the test server would not match the checksum of the exe used for the live server. A number of games that have both an open/semi open test and live server have had issues with the test server exe due to the constant change in EXE . If you visit your antivirus website for the file, which is likely the exe, it will tell you that no one has marked it as a good exe... :( Tis one of the reasons it may be necessary to either exclude those directories from active scanning, or should be the first thing to check and then mark as ok so it is not quarantined.

Patch dates can really be a pain :), more so for a test server than a live server.

I play mwo online on my desktop, and ever since I have started to play it it has contracted viruses. Because of this I had to clear my whole desktop to factory settings. Because of this I am back to playing the older disk copies of mw. Hey, it's not a bad thing.

THANKS MWO
