From what I can gather out of the 2 mechs I have interest in, these are the known hard points:
Timberwolf
Prime:
LA = 2E
LT = 1E, 1M
CT = 1B
RT = 1B, 1M
RA = 2E
C: ?
LA = 2E
LT = 1M
CT = -
RT = 1M
RA = 1B
S: ?
LA = 1E
LT = 1E, 2M
CT = 1B
RT = 1B, 2M
RA = 1E

Dire Wolf
Prime:
LA = 4E, 1B
LT = 1M
CT = -
RT = -
RA = 4E, 1B
A: ?
LA = 1B
LT = 2M
CT = -
RT = -
RA = 3E
B: ?
LA = 4E
LT = 2B
CT = 1E
RT = 2B
RA = 1B

My ideal mech would have these hardpoints, preferably 100 tons:
LA = 2E
LT = 1B, 1M
CT = -
RT = 1B, 1M
RA = 2E
The closest mech seems to me to be timberwolf in terms of hardpoints but it is only 75 tons and will use up crit slots on endo/ferro, I also hate the way the dire wolf looks.

So atm I am thinking the timberwolf will be closer to what I am looking for but I really would like to be able to play around in something like smurfy first to be sure, so if any of you know mechbuilding tools that I could use to fiddle with loadouts or know a clan mech that fits the hardpoints I described above better, your input would help immensely.

You've got months till they're available for MC or C-bills....and right now, I'd wait.

Seriously. Lot of questions going on about how balanced Clan designs will be, or even how functional- as of now, they don't even have Clan LB-X done.

Daishi can get these hardpoints with a mix of all three Daishi variants:
LA = 4E, 1B
LT = 2M
CT = -
RT = 2B
RA = 4E, 1B

Really it comes down to whether you want speed/jumpjets or twice the firepower.

But would it not be cheaper to buy a ala-cart mech now over getting them separately later (unless they have bundles for each then which I don't think they will)?

Well we know the bulk of the functionality just not the specific numbers so I am not worried about that at much, a key point will be though endo/ferro slot allocation which will be hard locked, I suspect it will roughly be evenly spread (to allow omni pods to be swapped and still have the correct # of slots) so you loose 1-2 Crit slots in each location or a bunch in the torsos.

Good point, didn't think of that, fiddled around a bit though (manually), the problem with 2B in the same torso is that ballistic components are very large so at best I can mount 2xUAC/LBX10 in the same torso. Alternatively if I mount large ballistics in the arms there is not room left for any energy weapons of decent size. I may have to just run with down scaled ballistics in the end.

So atm I guess the Direwolf has the lead.

Depends on how long you are willing to wait for the c-bill purchases and how long after release they offer the packages. My guess is that the packages will not be available by the time you can get these two mechs without them. Then you are stuck buying the variants separately.

As for which one to get, I'd get the DireWolf. I'm biased though, because I like big slow mechs.

At this point, we already have some rather rude surprises from people making assumptions on Clan weaponry that proved unfounded.

I really, really expect more such fun surprises soon. As it is, I'm quite happy to wait till they're C-bill purchases, at which point the dust will have settled. If then.

Almost certainly. Currently a 75 to mech for MC costs 2k-4k (non hero), with a hero (protector) going for 5,5k. +3x300 for mechbays, and it totals to (using 2x3k for the non heros) about 12400 MC.

Bought in one chunk, (1x12000 + 1x 1250) it`s 56.90

HOWEVER: This assumes that Clan mechs will cost teh same as IS mechs, something that most of us doubt and that Russ has alluded to not being the case (as it was given as part of the reason for the higher per mech price of the clan packs)

So preordering will almost certainly be cheaper, and it will fdefinitely be faster... the question is just how much cheaper.... I`d wager in the 5-10$ range for a 100 ton mech like the Dire wolf (assuming you purchase all 3), less for the Timber wolf.

BUT: if you wait and don`t preorder, NONE of your clan mechs will have a 30% c-bill bonus, so there`s that, too :)

The Daishi and Timberwolf are the two clan mechs I want most also. I have adopted a "wait and see" attitude though. There are still a lot of unknowns and I would be mad if I spent $55 or more one of these and it sucked. Unfortunately, I am afraid clan mechs are going to be outclassed until IS autocannons get the same burst fire mechanic as their clan counterparts. The hit boxes and scaling are also two big unknowns that could dramatically impact the performance of the clan mechs.

Damn, why does the timberwolf have to look so dam sexy and the dire wolf so ugly, if the dire wolf didn't look like a box on legs I probably would have ordered already.

To go with looks, Timberwolf, or function Dire wolf that is the question.
