The purpose of air/arty should be area denial. But right now, it's way too easy to just take out a mech with a lucky strike.

To retain the devastation of a strike but not the random kill potential of it, I propose all strikes to be replaced with an EMP strike.

It works the same way as an air/arty, red smoke is placed and after 5s, a strike goes off. There is no random nature to it. EVERY mech in the area will get hit by the EMP including friendlies if you're not careful with it.

Effects on mech hit by EMP lasting 20 seconds (or some reasonable timing):

1) Mini map gets disabled
2) Target locking disabled (which implies enemy information acquisition not possible)
3) targeting reticle flickers in and out of existence.
4) ECM disabled
5) IFF disabled. (you won't be able to tell friend from foe)

This means no mechs will get killed by a strike outright, but it will still be devastating due to the information loss. You also break the ECM protection of the enemy team allowing you to do whatever you want in the time period.

With a shorter duration and similar effects I would vote for this as an additional module option in lieu of a straight up replacement.

Smoke would be even better, that way it would have applications to drop it for cover as well as area denial.

actually, a smoke grenade module would be a fantastic counter against poptarts, you should start a thread suggesting it
