Seriously, this thing is kicking my butt and all I'm doing is fumbling around like a teenager with a bra strap. I keep going back to the keyboard because that is what I'm used to. To make matters worse, I also bought a G502, which is as slick as prison soap.

I've realized that relearning both hands at the same time isn't going to happen, so I'm starting with the G13. So, what is the best way to ease into this? Is this going to be forever?

It may be better to just "relearn both hands at the same time" rather than stutter-stepping your way through it.

Just resign yourself to getting blow up a lot while you get used to things.

I see an LRM boat purchase in my future.

What I use

Set w,a,s,d, to thumbstick. Turn off throttle decay0 and set g20 or g15 to full stop.
G19 = target
G6 and G7 toggle zoom and advanced
G1-5 weapons
G6 set to weapon group 6 but assigned left shift for toggle tag

rest are kinda where you like

the key is to set decay off. Is a pain with on. Get use to using full stop

I use my thumb stick for movement, I torso twist with the mouse... G10, G11, and G12 my main weapon groups with the keys below them for my backup groups. I have my mouse buttons bound to zoom and target (never accidentally fire that way)

Thats pretty much my set up, though I have the key that toggles forward/reverse mapped also so you never actually have to come to a full stop if you don't realy need to

I had the joystick assigned, but the throttle decay was deal breaker for me, so I set it back up as ASWD. I currently have the G13 keys set up as ASWD also, as well as basic controls just to get used to the feel of it. I figure that once my hand gets used to hitting the keys, I can swap them to whatever I need.

I do LOVE the idea of all firing controls being on the keypad, as the added length of the G502 seems to make the firing buttons a little too sensitive compared to my previous mouse. FF is not an option for me; I hate getting shot in the back, and I'll do whatever I can to avoid doing it to others.

On that note, artillery and air strikes will remain on the keyboard for now, so if you're on my team, you're safe.

Try using the numpad period key, it toggles you from forward to reverse/reverse to forward and keeps your throttle where you have it set

For you users of the g13 when using the thumb stick for movement does it still function like pressing the key or can you control the movement more?

You can set it up as an analog joystick.

it works the same as wasd. I have been using it for around 5-6 years so got kinda use to it. I started using it doing arenas in WoW (shhhhh). The advantage to it is that when you get use to controlling movement with thumb it frees up 4 fingers for key functions. You can do multiple things real quick without sacrificing movement.

Take your fastest direct fire mech out into the proving ground and relearn corner cutting and tight turns in frozen city.

Next practice precision targeting by trying to hit the same spot on a target while making all those fast turns and manuvers.I recommend an AC2 for aiming practice it's light and has high ammo capacity.

This is what I did when I got new periferals and controls.

Great idea. Essentially force myself to learn. It would be great to do it under fire, but I don't want my ineptitude to hold back the team.

On the bright side, left-handed can openers exist now.

Assigning WASD to the thumbstick is a waste of the G13's potential. The best way to control MWO is with analog stick for legs and mouse for torso and the G13 thumbstick is an analog stick.

The ability to have perfect control over speed is one thing, but the analog turning of legs allows smooth turns at various speed and it is a game changer with a big impact on the ability to aim accurately during maneuvering, especially with laser weapons.

It does require some extra work though. The default mode of stock G13 is limited in corners (it has a circular movement area, preventing from turning at max rate while moving at max speed). One way to get around it is to mod the joystick, but I am using a 3rd party remapper sw that maps the G13 stick to a new virtual joystick with increased sensitivity and a small deadzone.

What software did you use for that?
