Don't hold your breath, buddy.
We won't see Clan vs IS until Community Warfare comes around - which should be in about a year or something.
It's very frustrating.
The major argument against "Clan vs IS" battles was that there wouldn't be enough Clan Players to fill the teams. From the sounds of it though, the PTS had loads of people running Clan Mechs (people only seeing a handful of IS during the tests) - which means there are more than enough people to have the MM separate Clan and IS onto separate teams for the PUG Queue.
I genuinely think we'll have the opposite problem.
Clan mechs are immensely fun to play. Everyone has slower speeds, which is great because it gives us the feel that a game based on Battletech was supposed to have instead of Gundam speed mechs (aka the Inner Sphere). Targets are easy enough to hit but tanky enough to take abuse (like the I.S. in closed beta). Despite the amount of firepower being thrown around, the dispersion mechanics and DoT are making the game LOADS more fun.
But then you go back to the I.S. And because everyone else has poptarts, your options are pretty limited. No more sick brawls in the middle of the field. No more lugging around at 48 kph and being something so terrifying that smaller enemies RUN from you. Instead, you feel worthless in an Atlas because 3 poptarts just nailed you with pinpoint strikes at almost the same time. Your AC/20 gives an unsatisfactory "Fwong," when just yesterday a Clan AC/20 was giving you "Dakka, dakka, dakka, dakka, dakka." Your 2 AC/2s gives you ghost heat for firing in a two shot pattern, but over there 5 Ultra AC/2s didn't give ghost heat.
I have to say... The pinpoint stuff with the IS isn't fun; it's boring. It's like playing Alternativa. "You found a box. You clicked the box. Inside the box there was nothing. Do you want to tilt the box upside down? There is a note. You clicked the note. Please click to continue. Now it's time to play a minigame of clicking the killer robots before they touch you. Click....click...."
Here, it's more like you turn the corner. "Mother of god..." 6 autocannons start firing your way from one mech. You are pelted half to death, lose an arm but turn around just in time and zip back. There's a timber wolf and lasers [omg, lasers, I miss lasers, no one [really] uses them anymore]! Manage to get away from them by jumping onto a building, now vault to another. They can't aim up at you! Ha ha! Then the LRMs start coming to chase you right back into the action.
Were that Inner Sphere? Turn around the corner. Die instantly. No fun at all.
So we'd have a lot of Clans and almost no Inner Sphere playing with a total segregation.
However, Russ has said there will be "pub(lic) matches" on the left with everyone and everything and 3/3/3/3 for the casuals. And on the right "we'll have faction versus faction."
So we'll see.
