Hey, I searched the FAQ and the dev section of the forums. I probably missed it but are there any discussions of different size matches to be available in the future? I would love to see the ability of 1 on 1 duels (for leadership of a merc company or resolution of a grudge or faction honor)

Am I missing it and if so can someone please post a link to the discussion?

I certianly hope so. DIfferent sized games have to be a part of it, 12v12 is nice but a good duel will settle grudges. I didn't see anything like this either. Hopefully we can get an answer

I would think the ability to duel would be cool. Nice way to test your skills outside of a typical trainer. If you could setup a duel where you had the option of real or simulated damage between the combatants.

I'd like to see dueling, but only if it does not yield credits or XP. Otherwise, it can be exploited too easily.

All the videos so far have been 4vs4 so we will most likely have that in addition to 12vs12.

I could see dueling come in with the Clans as part of their play due to their Trials.

I hope that we don't have to wait for the clans (potentially a year). I wonder how resource intensive this would be for the servers?

Even if there isn't a ranked match duel I'd vote to have a custom match duel or 6 v 1 setup, no exp, no cbills. Wot lets you do this and it leads to some hilarious 1 Maus vs 16 loltractors. You could even have hosts n such as to not take too much from the game servers. Although this is a huge departure from the base game and likely wont be implemented at launch in this incarnation.

If I remember correctly the Clans fought 1 vs. 1 even in large engagements as their honor demanded that they single out a target to attack on the battlefield and once engage no other clanner would help until the fight was finished.
InnerSphere pilots would use the group method of multiple mechs targeting one enemy (usually the greatest threat) to take it out as quick as possible.
1 vs. 1 duels would defiantly be a cool thing to be able to do and play right in to the Clan style of battle.

Actually, I'd like to see an option where you each put up something (MC, C-Bills, House Faction, and later possibly even mech components, if Clan-level tech is going to be severly restricted) through a trading-style interface, and the winner takes all and the loser loses the item + some additional penalty, possibly C-Bill related.

E.g. one person may bid 1000 MC, the other puts up 1 million C-Bills through a trading interface.

Even better would be some method of tracking Ranks, like in the old Virtual World Master-system, where you can only challenge people higher ranked then you.

That would be cool, but would be an obvous way to circumvent the no trading mechanics builtin in for balance.

trophys would be cool though - the burnt out symbol taken from the chest or helmet of the merc commanders destroyed command mech. mmmmm. good.

That could be exploited to transfer goods between accounts. Make a throw away account, duel it bidding all their money, kill them get free money. Steal someone's account info, duel them wagering all their stuff, win, take all their stuff.

No transfer of goods between accounts should be allowed for any reason IMO.

probably 8vs8 to.

I think hope we will see the appearance of Solaris VII in this game and that will be dueling of a sort. I expect that Solaris will be sort of Everyone vs Everyone like it was in mercs (I hope so anyway). And yeah, winning in a Solaris match should certainly bring rewards, c-bills if nothing else. A unique mech for the winner of the entire league perhaps?

The clans could be a brilliant means of setting up 1vs1 duels and bringing the clans and clan mechs into the game without upsetting the tech balance like some people worry it will. Then the clans might then be integrated into the main game at a later date.

Solaris VII would be the easiest way to add 1 vs 1 arena combat..
