Which should I buy? I run a Catapult-K2 with dual machine guns, dual medium pulse lasers and dual large pulse lasers and I like to get right up in on the action. So a Timber Wolf seems a good fit. But I have been interested in an Assault class and like to snipe too.

Well don't pull the trigger on anything yet, because we will be having a Public Test soon for clans, so jump on and see which mechs seems more suitable for you.

The TW seems more of an allrounder, any role it can fill fairly well, Dire Wolf is for pumping lead into far away targets and the most PPFLD dmg of clans...whatever floats your boat.

Yes, go Timerwolf, due to its pods it will give you more customisation fun, also ist a faster thing than the direwolf.

Madcat

Much more versatile. Can be made in to almost anything to suit you with tweaking, and will do just under 90 kph speed tweaked. Direwolf has mean looking numbers but suffers from the fate of all assault. It is slooooowwwwww. And big. And easy to hit. And will be primaried by the entire other team.

Your mileage may vary.

If you haven't bought them, you don't get to test drive them unfortunately....you can still go see them in action however.

If you are on the fence and don't know which one to buy, I would probably go Timber Wolf based on it's speed. Dire Wolf can boast some really impressive and even unprecedented weapons load outs, but is really really slow. Timberwolf can't match the DireWolf for sheer firepower, but can do a lot of it's own various fits- and seemed to be the over all favorite mech in Thursdays test. (Not a very surprising result at all.)

Consider the 3/3/3/3 also, the Timberwolf is very VERY popular.... you might get way longer wait-times with it.

And assaults are very, very popular, so in regard to 3/3/3/3 an assault class player may have to wait even longer

With 3/3/3/3, it's a good thing I love my mediums and lights!
And Kit Fox is a ton of fun.

True, but I think Timberwolf beats Dire Wolf in popularity at release. In a few months I think it will be even between most weight classes except lights.

Timberwolf is nice. I pretty much use the Prime config, but with 2xERPPCs and LRM15s. It's hot, you have to watch the heat gauge to know when you can shoot the ERPPCs, but works fairly well for a multi-range mech. I see players loading a brawler into it, but it excells at long range.

Everyone says the Direwolf is slow, but can carry more fire-power than anything else. Speed seems to be kicked up a notch in importance.

Timberwolf wins on looks. Best one I have seen really.

The Clan mech purchases needed to be done before the test started in order to have access to them. That's the bad news. The good news is that now, with both the Timber Wolf and Dire wolf, you can change your faction logo and be a true member of Clan Wolf :(

Only one Wolf has TEH DAKKA!

The Wolf has poptarting, but who needs that when you can MELT FACE WITH SIX ULTRA AUTOCANNONS! GET IN BEFORE THE NEXT WAVE OF NERFS!!

I've been finding fun on the dire wolf with

2 lbx 20 +6 tons ammo
2 er large
1 lrm 20 with 2.5 tons ammo
tag for team support
probe for team support

although i may trade the er large for two er mediums and throw a second lrm 20 with 2 more tons lrm ammo, or do something with two lrm 15's... I could also trade the lbx for uac 20's, but where's the fun in that. I could also trade the lrm for srm's or even srm+a's but i dont like lacking long range weapons in slow mechs.

i suppose that would depend if lrm minimum ranges start working properly.
