I have a proposal for fixes to the LBX series of weapons (clan and IS both). Actually I have two depending upon the difficulty level of implementing the 2nd which I personally would prefer...

Fix #1 (easy fix)

Implement the cERPC split damage model to the LBX instead of the horrific model we use now. This can probably be implemented fairly easily. It can use the same rule for 'losing' damage if you hit an arm or leg.

Damage spread values:
lb2-x: 0.5/1/0.5
lb5-x: 1.25/2.5/1.25
lb10-x: 3/4/3
lb20-x: 6/8/6

Fix #2 (harder fix)

Implement the SAME system, but spread across 5 sections instead of 3. Similar ruls for losing damage would apply. This would probably take more work in development.

lb2-x: 0.2/0.4/0.8/0.4/0.2
lb5-x: 0.5/1/2/1/0.5
lb10-x: 1/2.5/3/2.5/1
lb20-x: 2/5/6/5/2

Spread example (LB20-x):

If you hit CT: RA-2/RT-5/CT-6/LT-5/LA-2
If you hit RT: RA-5/RT-6/CT-5/LT-5
If you hit RA: RA-6/RT-5/CT-2
If you hit RL: RL-6/RT-5

NOTE: You can tweak these numbers to adjust the weapon as a form of balance. Notice that RANGE DOES NOT MATTER. If you hit the CT, you do full damage.

NOTE: IMO, This gives the LB-X rough viability compared to the UAC. You cannot get quite as much pinpoint damage against slow or shut down mechs, but on the other hand it is FLD so twisting mechs and fast mechs will probably end up taking more damage.

I dunno

I love my LBX. It is a crit weapon, most effective when the armor is gone. Remember that, aim well, and you're golden. (Rocking 2 at once doesn't hurt either :D)

You can still have the crit effect, simply check once per secition hit and give the crit% the bump it gets today.

Everything is effective when armor is gone.

I prefer large pin-point FLD weapon as crit destroyer than an LBX, because each successful crit chance will deal full damage.

LBXs are fun weapons. They're not in the game to be effective, they offer no real advantage over their fld counterparts and they feel incredibly satisfying to shoot.

Chances are that isn't going to change.
Things that are underpowered will stay underpowered. PGI likes nerfs more than buffs, and either way they won't actually make any major changes. A 0.15 spread adjustment or a halfsecond cooldown reduction won't make much of an impact, and from what I've seen PGI's not willing to go beyond that level of tweaking and tuning.

They're not even bad

If you're trying to use them at max range and play the peak a boo game, you're doing it wrong.

It's about both barrels up close. It's a shotgun. If you need/want an AC10, then use an AC10! :D
