Well 12 mechs drop in and one person in the command center with a over the field battle view. Mech commander and mech warrior online combined....what!?

Seriously love to see and hear a mech commander on coms directing players on the field. Gathering intel through scouts, directing formations, calling tactical retreats. Implement this feature with CW and you would have a ridiculous game.

And tournaments...damn.

Sure this is not an original idea but I had to write it down to get it out of my head.

There's something a lot like this in Armored Core V (and Verdict Day, which is the infinitely better game), and it works pretty well. It'd be nice to prevent people running off and losing immediately, at the least. Just something to direct the zerg a bit more.

It is something that has been mentioned before all the way back when orders were implemented in the first place. I am glad someone brought this back up because it is a wonderful idea that really needs to be implemented before CW. There was a reason certain mechs came with a second seat in the board game.

Anyway they can do it anyway they feel they can, make a certain mech the command mech and if he dies you loose it, command building, dropship command.. I do not care. Wonderful idea that should be implemeneted. It has been in certain games for a very long time.

It would technically still be 12.

But I agree that the drop commander needs more stuff.

Sounds good... but I don't think the server architecture can handle it. Since clans have gone in I have been seeing plenty of server side lag issues and this is just with new weapons and mechs...not adding 2 more people total to a match.

That's all we need is two players in the same mech. I get the idea being practical, but it brings back too many painful memories of watching Pacific Rim.

What?? You didn't like Pacific Rim? They just green-lit the sequel!!!

You need to find your buddy so you can drift!

Pacific rim was awful.... A shame for any mechfan.

A proper commander in battlefield style, but with no physical presence on the other hand is a great idea. Could be some sort of touchpad game :3

A game mode where team member 13 is able to drop in assets such as turrets, ammo resupply dumps, repair bays, npc infantry/tanks, minefields, reinforcements (respawn points) would be useful, maybe control the art/air stikes/uavs, provided they were limited in where they could provide that support (near home base, or maybe designated by a flare placed by a team member?)

anyhow, these ideas are too fun and not cash driven enough to ever be adopted.

sounds like a great idea for them to develop for private matches in the future.

Not sure how it would be done in a good way but i like the idea. Just not for pug play... ever.... like ever ever....

I've been suggesting a 13th player as dedicated commander for about 2 years now. Still a great idea, though it doesn't really need to be anything fancier than just letting them spectate any team member and use the battle grid to give orders. I really don't think we need droppable turrets and such at least not at first, maybe later.

I'd love to be able to play the game on one monitor and have the battlegrid on my second monitor so I can relay information that way

Oh, god, make it like BF2142 - good commanders could change the outcome of a match (Ok, I and a friend could, even playing not together. Really good commanders were rare though).

There are so many possibilites...

Mobile Suit Gundam Online
This was something I played early last year.
50 vs 50 (1+1 commander)TDM with Dropship Mode
Sub-objectives in TDM
4 man Story/Campaign Mode
Commander Mode
- call UAV
- call artillery/map weapon
- call AI Ace Pilot
- call airship support
- Commander Rating (players leave feedback on commander performance)

However time to kill in the game is very short, you die in 3~4 shots or instantly from focus fire.
MS upgrade is an arm race.

They still have 1 inch invisible walls on every building and rock in the game.

The idea is not bad... BUT... do we really need it?

What we need are Commander Tools. Something that is FRIENDLY and EASY to use, two words PGI got lost from their vocabulary long time ago.

For some reason, every implementation of any form of UI from PGI is the most contorted and unfriendly EVER seen...

if they could put together a "Command Rose" at least similar to the one already saw in many other multiplayer military games, that would largely help the commander interaction.

The battlegrid the way it is right now is a joke. HOWEVER is also true this is THE GAME where ppl would kill on sight "premades".

What is a Premade? Is just a group of ppl dropping together with Someone who take the LEADER seat and will Drop Command possibly bringing the group to the victory.

So, how can you promote the Commander Role to a Community that is constantly QQing about premades? They would become a "premade" if they had a Commander.

This community wants to drop SOLO, why ev en bother to adjust and offer a better Commander option to a bunch of ppl who want to be SOLO ?

We drop as a group. We always had a Commander. Unfortunately the Commander has NO Tools in this game, but he is able to Drop Command AND Fight at the same time.

Would be nice to have an "Observer Seat" able to switch from cockpit to cockpit like we do in "dead mode" YES and Im pretty sure it would not be heavy on server, because really does not has that much of weight on the simulation.

How many would really appreciate it... a minority.
