this should have been called launch.

now lets see CW.

but make the casual play more fun in some way, so that i can still have a reason to drop with my friends from other houses, i hang out with a motley crue, even clanners

maybe fun game modes like capture the flag, or just make private lobby not require premium time but general xp or cbills or both, then people would still have incentive to buy premium time, it's a sweet deal for you and for your customer.

also, get a tutorial going;

how about a tutorial menu called somerset academy where you first have to move the torso on a training mech to end the map

then shoot and manage heat to end the map

and then have the player shoot at turrets and win to end the map

then make the training mech an urbanmech, and sell them for mc only, a really bad mech
and watch the cash flow in anyway for the ability to use the crummy training mech in a real live match

Once upon a time, "beta" meant feature complete, with the bulk of the remaining work being polish and bug fixes. What we have here would be considered an alpha, at best.

i think the game is in a good place right now!

paradoxically my strongest mech now seems to be the laser mech! and the clan er med lasers are mean!

i think we're finally seeing some variety on the field and the clans turns out were not unbalanced nor are IS mechs superior;
it was a good job they did

and the new mechs are wide as the largest IS mechs but they don't have awful hitboxes somehow, seems fair for what it is

ITT: People who don't understand what alpha means, or beta for that mater.

This is a finished product - it's just not finished the way we, in general, expected it to be. Now, it's moving into established post-RTM milestones - albeit with a slower/pushed back timeline than expected.

I am not excusing the ultimate course of action that lead us to the current state of affairs, but I won't sit idle while people with zero concept of an actual product dev cycle bark about this being "alpha still".

The game will be out of beta when we will get lobbies, units, and UI 2.0 will get much needed polish. It's worse to use than the previous UI, but it has potential.

To call this released product a beta is a criticism, not ignorance.

This is a finished product
....

NOT if over 60% of the stuff PGI announced for the game is still missing.
Not in my world, and not in everyones else world (beside pinky happy land).

There was a list and announcment even before the open beta about all the cool stuff they were going to do in MWO.
And most of this stuff is still missing.
How could you call this a finished product if this is all missing?!

Here, you got your finished product. Brand new PC. Without CPU, RAM, Mainboard and HDD. But its finished, it has a case and a power supply.....

Because you're confusing the list of things that would *eventually* be in product with the core product. PGI, like most companies, was very careful to establish the difference between core content and the "vision" of what it should be. They let timelines slip on the additional components (bigtime) but, if you were to try to argue that this was not a "finished" product as outlined by their deliverables, you wouldn't be able to.

In your scenario, you are describing PC components that are *required* in order to turn it on. Bad comparison. Since you can actually start MWO, use it, and it has a stable uptime, it's not really comparable to your cant-even-spin-it-up PC compare. It would be more akin to you having a PC but lacking the killer video card you wanted when it was delivered because the manufacturer couldn't deliver in time. You can still use the box, it's just not what you ultimately want it to be.

We expect to have each of the features we have announced and discussed on the website (with one exception), in the game by the Open Beta date (which cannot yet be announced other than Summer 2012).

Quote

The one exception is the Community Warfare pillar which is a complex system but extremely important. In not wanting to delay the game, logic dictates it be added post-launch. Once fans are completely familiar with creating their 'Mech and pilot trees, the depth of Community Warfare will be added, with the core of the community experience projected to be in-game within 90 days of open beta.

/// It was said a few month later, that they didnt even start with the Community Warfare or Faction Warfare, or anything else. But i can not find this quote right now. But it speaks for itself, that it is not even out now. nearly 2 years later. ///

Should i go on?
Calling this game a finished game is a joke. And a straight lie.

Dont get me wrong with one part. The game is working, you can play it, and i have fun doing so.
But it is NOT finished.

It was released, most likly because of push from the publisher. Or because they became short of money. I dont bother.
For whatever reason they had to push it out and sell it. Fine. And it is working fine as a third class shooter game and is fun to play.

But there are key parts of the game missing for me. Parts that were promoted and adverticed. Key parts i were interessted in.

You forget PGI's own words.

There is no finished product.

According to Russ, it was only October last year that PGI's license to Mechwarrior franchise was going to run out in 2015. In October 2013 they secured the license until 2018.

Of course they weren't going to invest into systems like CW and just talked complete bollocks on the matter for 2 years selling mech packs when they weren't even sure they could capitalize on it even if they did start development on CW 2 years ago.

guise we hard at work on CW it's coming out 90 days after closed beta/open beta/may/august/next year/ Soon™
