Well essentially in a PUG setting, nobody wants to be doing the "tanking". Because people have learned to not rely on teammates to shoulder up with them and fire down the lane.
But tanking almost always has to happen, because it's rare for a team to catch another team completely unawares. With 12 eyes on the field, it's a good chance at least a couple sets of eyes will be looking at where-ever you and your buddies emerge from. Somebody's gotta go first and risk taking those hits.
