In order to post in that forum you will need to finish your first 25 matches though (if I recall correctly)
Those 25 matches also give you a Cbill boost to help purchase your first chassis.

The more official game-side joining is slated to arrive over the next two or three months when the Faction tab in the game will have some functionality.
