When PGI announced the marketing plans for the Clan invasion, I instantly saw a big problem brewing because of how long it will take before the Omnis come out for C-bills- that problem being players that missed out on the pre-order for whatever reason getting jealous of other peoples new toys and accusing them of "Pay to Win".

I had always assumed PGI would roll out the Omnimechs pretty quickly after launch, not only to stuff a sock into any kind of P2W grumblings, but also as a subtle way to sell more Clan stuff... but so far, they have not done this, and worse I have not heard one peep from PGI saying if and when it will be done.

So...are the Omnimechs going to be made available as trial mechs? And if they are...when?

I assume they will be eventually, though they will probably wait until the MC/C-bill variants are around and they can put out a Champion Configuration.

I could see that- hard to know though, since they never have gotten around to making Phoenix mechs into trials.

IMO, Clan mechs don't really need the "Champion" mech treatment, many of the stock variants have a half workable if not pretty good builds on them already- it was far more important for IS mechs because of how much upgrading most stock IS mechs need to be any good...some of the trial mechs they had before they figured out the "champion" thing were downright terrible to make new players use...I don't think the Omnis would have the same issues.

The "subtle way to sell clan stuff" is that the clan packages are still available. People want clans before they can buy it for cbills then they can pay real money.

This will sound a little snobby - but making the clan mechs available as trial mechs before they are released to the general public would cheapen the pre-order feeling.

I'm in favor of having Clan mechs on trial - just make it a short trial. Give the spheroids a chance to test-drive a couple of clan mechs to see if they like them or not before they post-pre-order

True...but so does having people accuse me or other players of "P2W".

Personally, I didn't Pay to Win, I paid to not have to wait until this September to buy Clan stuff. ;)

Basicly what he said. Those that spent 200+ on their Clan mechs will start asking for refunds, if everybody can suddenly pilot the better mechs. Whether it's right or wrong is another story, the chance of getting trial Clans right now is slim though.

For a week or two Clan players will enjoy padding their stats. At that point the first balancing will take place. I think lasers will be targeted first.

This is just my prediction though, I am not a prophet and could be very wrong.

You should not take it personally. While there are people that "paid to win", aka bought the mechs with the hope to get better stuff than others, everybody is an individual in the end. The guy "attacking" you doesn't know your, or anybody elses, reasons.

Insults are a no go though, always.
