They don't. Component destruction is for the main body parts, like arms, legs, torsos, not the items within them.

Um... no.

MG's were way to effective in the first place. They're anti-infantry weapons, not anti-mech.

might want to look that up.

MGs do 2 damage to mechs and armor.

There's ALWAYS one of those types of people in MG threads. Like, every single time.

Yah, which admittedly is more than an LBX pellet, but it's still supposed to be a min range min dmg weapon.

Cool. It does LESS than that now. Never has done the damage they should.

Requires 100% uptime (aka full exposure), has cone of fire (no other weapon has this), and useless vs external armor.

Gee, let's find more ways to make weapons like Flamers.

Anyone who says that a MG isnt an anti material weapon doesnt know what they are talking about. Heavy machine guns are used against aircraft, vehicles and buildings. Normally are in the .50 or 12.7 mm. They punch through light skinned vehicles and destroy them. I do seem to recall that a .50 cal will go through a cement brick. Things like engines, wires, mechanical devices just get tore up.

What are your findings?

I have 4 Quad MG mechs, the Ember, Huginn, my Jager-DD "Crit-Bomb" and my Nova-S.

I first noticed on the Test Server....that while the Clan MG sounded sexy as heck.... I was really getting no crits, no destroyed components. Figured lower damage or crits were a trade off for half weight, so didn't think too much about it.

Then we get the patch notes, telling us that they were not doing their full damage, and because that is fixed now, their damage is reduced. OK, fair enough, accurate damage registry, supposed to come out a wash, No problem.

Except that I have not found them to be a wash. I actually find them staggeringly less effective.
They are still great sounding, low heat Dakka, and a lot of people twist and panic still, because they are conditioned to panic about getting critted...... but the actual amount of damage, number of crits and component destructions are waaaaaaay down for me.

Mind you, by far not the biggest balance issue by any means (unless you are an Ember or Huginn, maybe?), but curious what other people are experiencing?
SEPHLOCK! THE MIND TAKER!
OoooEEEEEEooooOHHH!

Seriously, this has happened before. Same. Exact. Thing.

"Oh we found a bug that no one ever noticed that lowered damage by X. We fixed the bug and therefore decreased the damage by X. You should notice no change, really!"

Result?

Funnily enough they are basically like flamers if you're just shooting armor. Flamers have .7DPS whereas machine guns now sit at .8.

Crits though get nice with MGs :)

So actuators can be critted now? But don't actually have any detrimental effect on the mech when destroyed?

That seems wrong.

Well, that assumes all 10 bullets hit the same spot (which is rare). The Flamer needs to hit its spot every second by comparison...

Well, yea. 10 bullets better generate plenty of crits (max 10 crit chances per MG)... can't say the same for the Flamer (1 flamer shot per second).

Machine guns are supposed to do damage equal to an ac 2.
Your assertion that they are supposed to be anti infantry weapons is nonsensical and baseless, given the machine gun in battletech predates infantry.
