hey!

considering we cant put ammo on the legs for most clan mechs

should we put the ammo on the side torso? (risking losing some torso fast...)

or in the arms (risking losing them faster? )

opinions???

case make it so the dmg from ammo explosion does not spread right?

so your ammo can still explode, taking away the part on wich they are, no?

Well put it where it will be useful. If the missile/ballistic is in the right arm dont put ammo first in the left energy only arm where it can get blown off.

I've been using mostly side torsos as there's case built in which even works with XLs. Also the Clan mechs are so arm-based that I don't want to loose one and give up half my arsenal.

With the built is case, I put them with the gun if possible. That way I don't end up with a useless gun due to loss the location that contains the ammo being different than the gun.

Exactly, just don't put anything else important in that pod, I mean unless you have room for a heatsink or two for crit padding.

Yup. I always put my ammo with the weapon. It's actually worth doing that even with IS mechs, when using Guass or AC20. Any extra crit padding that helps you keep your main weapon longer is better than nothing.

Every mech I've done it with has kept the AC20 longer than those I haven't.

If it sounds stupid but it works...

I tend to put ammo with the weapon if possible. If that section is destroyed you aren't then left with a weapon with no ammo or ammo that's not getting used. It should also be noted that CASE protects other sections from having ammo explosions spill over into them, but if you lose a side torso, that arm also falls off, so if your weapons are in the arms ammo in the torsos is still a threat to them, but since Clan CASE can go in arms too, ammo in the arms won't blow up your side torsos and anything in them.

Clan CASE in arms?

CLAN CASE IS EVERYWHERE. Free.

Like everyone else here, I keep the ammunition with the weapon UNLESS there is no room in the arm, at which point I move it to the neighboring side torso. Haven't had too many ammo explosions either, I just lose arms because of accurate enemy fire. And legs, because the enemy seems to have discovered that Clan mechs, once legged, are dead meat. (Unless you have my luck and manage to survive matches while legged with no CT armor purely because enemies ignore your Dragon or Nova for reasons unknown...)

Half the time you put Clan ammo wherever you have freaking room, not where you'd otherwise want to put it. Those hardlocked armor/structure slots are a whole lot more brutal than I ever figured they'd be.

That said, keeping the ammo with the gun is a good way to go about it with Clan 'Mechs. You're not going to lose the entire machine to an ammo boom unless the ammo's in the CT, and we've been dealing with that risk for how long now with IS 'Mechs? Heh...who'da thought that using the engine as crit padding for ammo would be a thing in a MW game, eh?

Here's the secret, I think, to that.

Empty ammo slots can be critted.

So I put my first two tons in the same spot, and the rest somewhere less important / likely to get hit. If you can get off 14 shots / salvos before they open up the torso, the empty ammo bins can still be critted and you end up with a 1 in 3 chance of the AC/20 not being the target of any crit to that torso.

if its just a solo MG ammo, the head, chances someone crits your ammo in the head is superlow. Hitting the head alone that it is unamored is already once in a blue moon in a blueish moon. And since clan XL's need both torsos destroyed, possibly store it only in one torso. Sure increases the chance you get ammoless, but also makes you lose only one side. Energieweapons are still a nice backup to still be able to shoot.

CASE = ammo location irrelevant

untrue, the ammo still deals damage in the location it is placed, it just does not spread to other locations. So ammo in CT is still a bad idea if it may go boom, you are done.

As far as putting ammo in the head, it depends on the mech. A lot of clan mechs have their heads already filled with things that cannot be moved. Which sucks, because on most inner sphere mechs, the head is typically the first place I put ammo.
