It's been said plenty of times, but I feel we must keep saying it; I still have hope something’s will change, maybe sooner than later.
After taking 6 months off, mostly because of boredom of mech death match, I came back to the release of the clans hoping for a better experience.
The models of the game have always looked good, and the Clan mechs were a further improvement, but that was never my gripe.
We still have no real objectives, no CW, the matches for the most part are still Team Death Match. The weapons systems still seem to still have the same flaws. The game is going to end as before with ACs, PPCs, and jump sniping. Well the clan mechs might substitute ACs for gauss.
Things like the SRMs have been fixed, but getting close to anyone for brawling is near impossible in most matches in my IS mechs. I only pub so I understand the organized match experience may be different, but I can only imagine the vast majority of the player base are pubbers too.
Another concern is that all this time is spent trying to balance the game as is, but I imagine CW would change the game in unexpected ways, the game should be balanced once it's out, not before. My bet is when CW is released there will have to be some significant balance changes yet again. Knowing all this I cannot understand how this game is not really beta.
Think of jump jets being used to clear terrain to chase down lights that are capturing objectives rather than trying to jump snipe a group of mechs derping around waiting for a target.
Imagine actual ambushes with brawler mechs against a group that decided they would only go with the standard meta of long range pinpoint systems. It doesn't make sense to do this now with the same predictable maps and objectives / gameplay types.
I like the game, but death match games are not my thing, from Quake to now I am burned out on the genre. Overall the game is good, but I am just disappointed where the franchise has gone.
As far as FTP, I cannot stand most of them, and the fact that you released clans with a purchase only option until later in the year feels dirty.
What also bugs me about your FTP model, which may be like other games, but doesn't make it okay for me is the fact that premium time ticks down even when you are not playing. So someone with a full time job that sleeps 8 hours out of the day can only utilize 33% of that investment at most.
PGI gets the money either way, but you are just penalizing your player base, potentially shooting yourselves in the foot by discouraging people from buying it.
I know you need to make money, but for some like me it just make me want to abandon the game entirely, seriously...$55 for a single clan mech, give me a break, sadly people pay for it which just encourages the poaching. The prices could be a bit more reasonable, I would actually spend money if it was the case.
Best of luck, I will check back in 6 months.

Still Disappointed

I agree. The same old kill the whole team to win is really getting boring.

Clan mechs, with their fixed engines, are mostly hogs. They have impressive output, but they aren't all that nimble: if you can get close and brawl with them, they're in trouble.

Join one of those legues people got going. I think CW is going to be exactly the same 'death match', but with an exterrior result, if it isn't fun now, CW isn't going to change that for you.
