Obviously this applies to those of you who have the option to pilot either :D.

Just curious.

I like both, FWIW.

Stormcrow is faster, has far more pod space (available tonnage) MGs get old fast, and it has missle harpoints. Many other reasons I cant think of right now.

1) Nova comes out for CBills at end of August. I can wait that out. Stormcrow is end of November. That's much longer.

2) Nova can't mount missiles

Don't get me wrong the Nova seems a good mech, and I hate the lack of jets on the crow, but its definitely a solid mech.

Because the Nova can't mount a quarter of the awesome fits the Stormcrow can. It definitely has its place, and I've been working on good stuff for them both, but the Nova is a corner-camping crotch puncher kinda no matter what you do with it. A really good one, but that's what it is. The Stormcrow is anything I damn well want it to be and that is awesome.

The Stormcrow is the most versatile medium in the game, hands down. The Nova is really good at what it does (mostly overheating), but the Stormcrow shines no matter what role you configure it for.

Being so ugly it's cute helps as well.

Oh, and the speed. 81kph just feels too slow for me.

Just drove a Stormcrow for the first time last night...the 4xASRM6/2xERLL is great. Haven't taken my Novas out for a spin yet but I'm guessing they'll be like the energy Hunchback/Awesome (sort of).

My brother bought the oscillating-fan cockpit item to put in his Nova Prime after a few matches in the stock fit.

I lol'd pretty hard. And am thinking equally hard about doing the same for mine.

After upgrading my clan package from Black Hawk I am now mastering the Ryokens. I must admit I am kind of feeling the OP title. With the exception of the ability to mount missiles I really see little advantage over the Black Hawk.

Maybe it's just a preferred playstyle thing but once I've mastered the other clan mechs I think I'll be going back to my Black Hawk Prime and BJ Arrow for the vast majority of my playing time with maybe a little Ullering on the side once in a while.

It's a Smoke Jaguar mech. 7 tons more pod space. Faster. It has a very slender profile vs the fat, easy to hit, squashed Warhawk-like Nova. It can carry as many DHS as a stock Direwolf prime. You can alpha repeatedly with 5 lasers on Terra Therma and not even glance at the heat meter. Lurms + Narc is fun.

Just finished unlocking the x2 pilot bonuses, it gets even moar insane after that. The stock SCR Prime is about as close to heat neutral with energy weapons in this game as you'll find.

Versatility. The only things the Nova has going for it over the Stormcrow are energy boating and jumpjets, imo. I like energy builds, but the Nova is a bit much for me. Conversely, you can build the Stormcrow to be pretty much anything except a ballistic boat, with an extra 5 tons (even more if you count the Nova's jumpjet tonnage) to make use of.

Because 5 CStreak 6 SRMs?

Actually the ability to swap out a pod and have Missiles and/or Ballistic to back up your energy is nice.

The Stormcrow is simply faster, more maneuverable (minus jumpjets of course) and has the hill climbing ability close (but not quite) to a Raven. The thing is an absolute blast to play. If I want a jumpy mech, I'll go with a Summoner, it can do it better, but can't boat like the Nova, but the Summoner is much more nimble than the Nova is and can take a better beating. The Summoner plays like a heavier Shadowhawk/Griffin/Wolverine.

The Stormcrow allows you to get in, mosh a bit, then get out just as fast. The best Clan mech in this pack IMO. But, I normally am a Medium/Heavy mech pilot who prefers 85-110 kph on all my mechs.

The load outs the Stormcrow can mount are amazing also. Can't wait until the Stormcrow comes out for C-Bills so I can just fill all of my mechbays with different load outs without having to jump into the mechlab every time I want to try something different.

I almost got one for my Timber Wolf setup. Take the Stormcrow Prime and add more lasers and SRMs to it and you get the idea. ^_^

I like the stormcrow better. Its my narc mech with some laser backup. Feel like I have more variety with weapons on the stormcrow.

Stormcrow/Ryoken is an incredible mech. 107kph groundspeed with what? Like 22 tons of weapons? That's pretty crazy good.

Unlike the Nova, you can run it with energy and still be reasonably cool if you stuff it with heat sinks (like the prime config), or do other things. SRMs are LEGITIMATE weapons right now, which is a big deal.

My configs are: 4x ERSL, 1 ML, 2 ERPPC for sniper/skirmisher (the groundspeed here is huge, to get you back and forth between cover and reposition
LBX20 + 5 ERML (amazingly fun, LBX20 is the real winner of clan ballistics)
4ERML + 3 ASRM6 (Astoundingly deadly, managed to ace a fresh Atlas by outcircling him and dropping two SRM volleys into the Center rear

Armour is comparable. It really boils down to the hardwired jets, heat sinks and no ES.

With Endo, no fixed jump jets and no hardwired heatsinks, the Nova would have 25 tons of pod space - more if FF was also used.
As it stands, the nova can only carry 16 tons of stuff (20 if you count the 4 extra heatsinks). Shame about no missile hardpoints, and slower than the crow, though the jump jets are a saving grace.

I only upgraded my package (which now includes the fox, the nova, and the crow), so I haven't had a chance to test drive it yet, but the crow feels like a much more flexible machine, offering missile boat, SRM/SSRM brawling, lasers, and more.

While the nova is relegated to being a much slower ember.

While I only own a Nova and enjoy it a fair bit, I do miss the option for any missiles whatsoever, or the abilty to mount large ballistic weapons.

Ultra 20 just isn't viable with only ~16 tons to work with.
