And Yeah, I'm French.
But that joke is also getting old and really annoying at some point.
Each time there is french content released or talk about on WWII games. You will always have the same stupid stuff.
"French? But they didn't even fought and just used the White Flag..."

It's funny that a lot of people bash the French but the world we know today wouldn't exist without them.

Quote "According to the British historian Niall Fergusson, France has participated in 168 major European battles, out of which it won 109, drew 10 and lost 49, making the country the most successful military power in European history".
Also until the proclamation of the German Empire in 1871 (ie before germany existed) France was widely considered the strongest land power in the world.
Yes the french surrendered in WWII but many of the French units fought to the bitter end before that surrender. The time needed for the retreat of the British at Dunkirk was bought with French lives, in order to keep the British army as intact as possible and create the possibilty of French liberation in the future, with French military loss of life at roughly about 200 000 dead.
Considering the French were working with a severly outdated military doctrine, and incorrect assumptions of where the German advance would come from they did not do too badly. Also do not discount the value that la resistance played in the war.
If you look at what the French did in WWI, then you would never question French bravery. In the first weeks of that war the period known as the battle of the frontiers, up to 20000 (yes twenty thousand) men were regularly killed each day!
They were not being slaughtered in this way because they were running, on the contrary they were attacking what they knew to be strong enemy positions, knowing they were both outranged and outgunned. During this war the only allied side to suffer more casualties than the french was the Russian empire.
For the record Im British, so historically speaking the natural enemy of the French. As much as I would like to believe in the myth of French cowardice it is simply not true.

I don't think that anyone doubts the courage of the French in either World War, or previously when they were a superpower (Think Napoleon and Charlemagne). However, the jokes are still entertaining so lighten up! Every nation and/or ethnic group has had jokes made about it. For the French, the jokes simply focus on their more recent history.
Here are a couple I like by Argus Hamilton (paraphrased):
"Do you know how many men it takes to defend France? Neither do I - it's never been tried!"
"Every year, millions of Americans dress up and turn out for war reenactments. It's a uniquely American tradition. I mean, it's hard to imagine the French getting all dressed up just so that they can go around all weekend surrendering."

Then Hollywood worked on the myth while the cold war.
-----------------------
The origin of French / US bashing (French dont like US either, lot of idiots things said) begins at the end of WWII.
When the allied wins, USA tried to occupy France like a conquered country (nice...). They even started to emit "dollar money" in europe...
But General De Gaule said, short story wise, go f*ck yourself...
That's why those 2 countries never miss a chance to taunt each other.

Damn it's hilarious if you place it like a historical quote! XD
