Two, one is a professional game studio with paid employees and the guy that created the franchise some 27 years ago, and the other is some random guys working on it when they feel like it.
Those are pretty big distinctions, right there.
I'm sorry but saying that "MWLL is just a mod" is flat out lying. There is a difference between adding a few guns or making a few maps or reskinning a few things (mods) and making a totally new game ontop of an old game (total conversion). It's a whole new game, or is MWO also a mod of Crysis 2?

Let's also clear up that MWLL is a combined arms game. MWO is a pure and dedicated Battlemech action/sim. MWO will have persistent galaxy to fight over, with different factions fighting for power like in older MPBT or MekWars. MWLL dose not offer, or plan to offer this. In fact, I don't think the have the capital to make that kind of Eco-system work, nor do they have full access to the engine to deviate away from the core programming. CryENGINE2 dose not offer these things out of the box.
Finally, for the same reasons, MWLL dose find within it's grasp the means to provide presistent characters and indepth game stats. MWO will.
Saying MWLL and MWO are going to be alike is like saying apples are pears. They are both based on Battletech. But for me that's about the only thing the have incommon, excluding the fact they both use CryENGINE. What the MWLL devs did to get MWLL where it is today is fantastic. However, I feel it's slighty deluded to think MWLL devs have the time and resources to realise much of what MWO sets out to achieve.

OK, first, let me say, I do not belittle what was, or is, for a fan based mod, a great achievement.
The simple answer to your question is:
MWLL is a copy of MW4 in terms of visions and more or less, the gameplay.
Nothing new.
In fact for me it looks like MW4,5. Sounds hard?
Its not meant to be offending, just my humble thoughts about the matter.
MWO is taking Mechwarrior to the next step!
If all goes well, several steps forward, expands and enriches the PC experience to be a Mechjockey, Mechwarfare.
Its ridicules to believe both would play in the same league!
The real question is:
How, on earth, can anyone be so naive, to think MWO is looking even close to MW4 or any fan made mod!
Think gameplay, visuals, contend, expansions.
No offense Boeduur, really.

I apologize if I sound supercilious. Its not meant to be.

How, on earth, can anyone be so naive, to think MWLL is anything like MW4.5? Not only are the visuals way different from MW4, but you also have the combined arms aspect (VTOL, Aero, Tanks, BattleArmor and Mechs) and even in terms of gameplay its a totally different experience. Even in the tactics department you get more variety than your usual popjump sniping balloon artist from MW4.
On a graphics level MWLL and MWO are probably going to be of somewhat similar caliber (at least closer than MW4 would have in that department), except of course you'll have MWO using flyingdebris' take on the designs as well as a full staff who are getting paid to do it rather than only getting to do it in their free time. That is about where I would expect the similarities to end, not only gameplay-wise but also in terms of the persistent nature of MWO.

they don't have the ressources to create a product similar to MWO. So MWO doesn't have to worry about MW:LL
but in the other way round MW:LL may get more attention and players.
But they will look different, have different approaches and other amounts of content.

A total conversion is still a mod, it's just more ambitious. MWO isn't a mod because the devlopers have licensed the engine that was used to create Crysis 2.

If that is the case, are you guys going to leave them alone or take action against them. Only reason Im asking is, there hasnt been anything new MW wise in a decade, lol and just found it 2 weeks ago and love playing it. So I'd hate to see it get thrown under the bus.
