So I quickly messed around with some of the laser values for both Clan and IS weapons to try to not only bring them more in line with each other, but to also try and make them more relevant when compared to the traditional "meta" builds.

Many of the values are the same compared to the current build, however there has been a bit more consistency applied to beam durations. I.S. Lasers now all have had their beam duration decreased to values of .9 or less to attempt at making them slightly more competitive. I.S. Laser ranges have also seen some modest increases.

What is the purpose of this post? Balance is up to PGI, and they will tweak the values accordingly. Also, Clan mechs are supposed to be superior to IS mechs in every way. You defeat Clan by fielding more IS mechs by numbers or battle value, not by making the mechs even on a one-versus-one basis. Making clan mechs less powerful and drop using IS force composition destroys continuity/lore/culture of the game which ruins immersion and the whole point of MWO: for the fans by the fans.

IS lasers are already superior to Clan lasers. The longer beam time of the Clan lasers is a real killer. You just can't afford to stare at an enemy for that long, especially with a weak CT like most Clan mechs seem to have.

Sure Clan lasers have more range, but that doesn't mean much in practice, especially with everyone fighting from cover these days due to the LRMappocalypse.

I really wish I could load IS weapons on my Clan mechs. It's ironic how some people only look at the numbers, theory craft, and form an opinion without even trying Clan tech. There will be a lot of disappointed people when the Clans are released for C-Bills.

NRP, that's the exact reason behind these modest suggestions. Generally speaking, even IS lasers are not very effective in high elo play (outside of specific builds) which is the reason even some of them received slight reductions in beam duration and in a few cases a slight increase in range... As for clan lasers... I wanted ER L and LPL to mirror the duration of their medium counterparts, just as is seen within the IS lineup... For the clan ER L this meant reducing it's beam duration to 1.35 to match the ER M (which was increased by .05 in this proposal), the trade off being an increase in heat generated by .5. The clan LPL also had it's duration cut down to 1.1 to mirror the clan MPL.

Panzerbjorn... Please take a look at the numbers again as it's painfully obvious by the above quote that you did not or simply did not understand them... The proposal makes the larger clan lasers more relevant considering the peak and shoot meta game play that is more or less standard, not less...

Do you guys even bother looking up facts before posting this nonsense ?
Clan Lasers are one of the weapons that is VASTLY superior to IS tech in every way !!

Lets take the IS most balance laser the Medium vs Clan ER Medium.
  • Damage and Duration. You might find it surprising Clan ER Medium lasers has higher DPS than IS medium lasers !! Not happy waiting an additional .3s to get 7 damage ?.. Just pull away at 1.0 sec.. You just did 5.34 damage.
  • The range.. OMG the range... Clan ER medium has the same range as IS Large Lasers !! You do full damage at 450M ! Need I say more ?
  • Heat to Damage Ratio. Clan 1.4 Damage/Heat. IS 1.25 Damage/Heat.
  • Double heat sinks... Boat as many of those 2 Crit double heatsinks as you can.. More heatsinks means higher heat threshold an cooling. Mean more non-stop Pew Pew...

Combine ShineVector's coments witht eh fact that you can run an XL that doesn't kill you with a Side torso destruction. More heat sinks to be had.
