I am new to the Battletech tabletop game and I bought the Introductory boxset and started reading through the Introductory rulebook and got confused about something, if I were to destroy a critical slot on a mechs weapon (e.g the ac 20) would the entire weapon be destroyed or would that mech still be able to use that weapon that has one less critical slot?

Question About Critical Slots.

The weapon would be non-functional after the first critical hit. Do not cross off the rest of the crit slots though, as they can still be hit.

I remember the time I hit someone with a through armor critical on the gyro.
That was satisfying. Mech falls down, can't get up. Keeps destroying itself in the attempt.

Some types of equipment can survive one or more critical hits and continue to function, albeit at a diminished level. The Engine, Gyro, Life Support and (I think) Sensor system can all sustain a critical hit and survive. The box set should have critical hit rules for these items.
Weapons are disabled after the first critical hit. Keeping track of additional critical hits on disabled weapons serves two purposes. First, the disabled weapon can soak up further critical hits that might have otherwise struck something else. Second, in campaign games where repair rules come into effect, weapons are harder to repair the more critical hits they have sustained.

Life Support can only take one hit. Sensor has two though.

Yep. As Ego has it - one hit against an ac20 will disable it.
The critical hit rules can get a bit confusing at times; but they're pretty well explained anymore, and comprehensive.
Just keep at it chevy; after you've managed to internalize and memorize the rules the game gets to be a lot more fun.

Sorry been too busy to check on this thread, thanks for the help the introductory rulebook was not very clear on what happens when a weapon with more than one critical hit loses a critical slot.
