Dire wolf is a slow turtle. If you get cought by it, you have done a tactical mistake or play an even slower Atlas.

However, the real god is the Timberwolf. It plays like an medium with the armor of a heavy chassis and the fire power of an IS assault. It has virtually no drawback, beside beeing not just as small as a commando ...

with the fire power of a IS heavy. two PPC and Gauss so its a CTF 3D =p

LOL...ok, it has my highest KDR of all the clan mechs, even more than my Gauss + 2ERPPC Timber Wolf S.

Yes, the Dire Wolf is garbage...

...

Keep telling everyone you know that... (meanwhile I blast everything I see in the face with a 50 pt PP FLD alpha strike from 500+ meters away and watch them die...)

your center torso is huge and attracks all damage, you turn like a school bus and your so slow that you cant reposition in time for anything.

The Dire wolf is fairly average overall. Fun but average.

Ya I saw a guy using it yesterday and was like WTF thats a 90+ sustainable alpha! It was actually pretty effective, if you get hot you also get Gauss shots in between alphas to let you cool down.

Indeed. You should see when DONTOR, my alias, and David Jorgenson are running a Crow Pack. We decimated literally everything, all night long. Elo tried to kill us, but short of tossing SJR at us, IDK what it could have done. It was literally the most brutal night of maulings I have ever participated in.

The Inner Sphere dogs should rejoice. They almost got to know what it feels like to participate in the Clawing. As a victim to the mighty Ghost Bear!

It was a IS brutalizing for the ages indeed.

Early on I tried this exact build on PTS and although numbers wise it looks powerful its just way too hot. You have to remember that you can't disengage in a direwolf once you walk out there. You need to be able to sustain fire until a mech or multiple mechs go down, you may be able to do that to one mech with that loadout but then you're overheated and being killed by his teammates. I have a build similar to this only i dropped the large lasers, change the mediums to pulse lasers, added AMS and more heat sinks. You have a more heat stable build and its still powerful enough to melt mechs relatively quickly. In a team game one shot ponies aren't nearly as useful as mechs that have large sustained fire potential.

There's always the Needler. You can 800 rounds unloaded (yes 1600 damage) before she overheats (with maxed skills). It's the like Arrow (many machine guns) but a lot scarier. :-)

with ghost heat, jam rate and fact you cant just hold the button down to fire 6uac2's is just more pain then its worth for what you get.

and while it can be awesome if you are firing at distracted targets (or ones that panic easy) anyone who knows what they are doing or if you get into a 1 on 1 with someone your basicly screwed.

its all in how you use it. i have gauss set to group 1 all lasers to group 2 and the 2 LL to group 3
if a target is in range of everything ill let him have it full on for 2 salvos then switch to only the gauss and when heats down enough the 2 LL.
worst case i can set group 2 to group fire and chain fire it all day long after my initial full alpha. But ill always at least have the 2 gauss which if they are just following up the full alpha is usually enough to finish of most mechs if my aims good. So i really dont see the build as a one hit wonder assuming you play it responsibly (i mean even if you play it as a one button masher with exception of mordor you can usually get off 2 shots without overheating might need to wait extra second or so but can still pull it off)

I dont want to use MPL just because the reduced range just exposes you far too much. i try my best to keep everything at the 400 meter+ mark to give myself time to manuver if needed or find cover.

The only reason i use pulse lasers is because you end up with no crit slots left but plenty of tonnage. So i switched them over to pulse for the miniscule shorter beam duration, plus they sound so cool.

When I get my C-bill Direwolf and deck it out for maximum firepower you will poop bricks.

And here I thought you just got behind the Direwolf and shot it in the back. Like all things, you fight it asymmetrically.

You do, but against a competent pilot who can see the move coming, you're gonna be SOL.
