So I was watching the last Matrix movie and started wondering if the first mechs were similar to the ones in that movie? Roughly about triple the size of a person, not much protection and basically carrying large caliber machine guns. Is there any reference material showing what the earliest mechs looked like?

I know the clans have the "elemental infantry" suits but those don't seem like mechs mostly just power armor.

Hmmm....

In Battletech, the first battlemech was the Mackie.

Although the very first -Mechs- were not Battlemechs. They were industrial-use designs that were beefed up to become the first primitive Battlemechs.

The Patron is about as close to an example of what the older industrial frames looked like- most of the earliest recorded examples are actually from the 2500-2600s.

I love the Matrix movies, but had not seen the 3rd one in quite some time. When watching it recently I remembered the mechs and was mentally comparing those mechs to the mechs here. Seemed like the ones for the movie might have looked like the earliest attempts at creating the mechs we have in this game. Just a random thought.

Here's some footage of one of the earliest precursors to the modern Elemental design:
