yeah its kinda the same still....BUT
Gauss PPC dire wolves are incredibly vulerable up close to fast mediums and dam near helpless to lights. The only reason ive been able to save my own skin when driving this mech is months and months of ppc practice on IS mechs before the clans dropped to help my aim. A good light mech driver can basically solo a dire wolf with this config. I out danced one a few days ago in a freaking Victor (and im horrible at flanking and spanking) they just turn too darn slow.
I honestly dont see many gauss PPC madcats. and when i do i just see them poptarting only with the ppcs since the gauss takes really good timing to poptart with. Honestly, as Ive said many many times before the gauss nerf never really killed the Gauss/PPC combo. People used PPCs/ac5s because it was EASIER, the old meta build never died and I still wrecked face with it for months and months after I realized this (by accident funny enough). You can never really kill that combination, no amount of cheesy ghost heat or charge mechancs or "gauss firing delay" what have you is going to kill that build. Its the best two front loaded high damage energy and ballistic weapons they are. They will always go together like Ac20s go with medium lasers....
The fixes to Srms certainly brought fast missile heavy mediums back into it. I do NOT like seeing artemis Srm6 wolverines coming my direction, because im going to lose a good chunk of armor if not die from those things. THEY HURT now. I took my freebie Centurion out for a spin after months of it languishing in my garage and netted me 3 nice kills with the good ole srm6/4 splat zombie build.....I might finally finish grinding centurions now LOL.

Same as ever, except nowadays, there's even less brawls, since the Clan mechs out-do you in that easily (assuming a decent pilot).
The only 'beacon of hope' for proper brawling are events like these: http://mwomercs.com/...k-mech-mondays/
You should really try one of them out at least once.
Actually, I think the IS has it over clan mechs for brawling, if they are packing FLD, that is.
If the clans can keep you at range, it's much easier for them to keep crosshairs on target for the time required to unleash maximum hurt.
Close range though, they have to look at you for too long while shooting. A 'Phract or DS can dump an ac20 round into a clan chest and then continue piloting like a stroke victim who just won the lottery, spreding out incoming damage.
Well, there are Meta Cats though. Those things are lethal too.

Dunno, I did bump into a dire wolf today with 4 lbx 10s in my shotgun highlander....we came off about equally as bad but if he had pushed the issue he probably could have killed me, we both had cherry red cts but he kept staring at me xD. I rolled the shot that would have killed me but lost most of my side torso.

Like there are any alternatives, SRMs? - please, you need to get close and even then it does the same damage to the aimed component because of spread, LRMs? - smart use of cover hard counters it because of long missile travel time. Lasers? - can't fire more than TWO without being penalized by Ghost Heat, that's 18 damage sprayed all over the mech due to torst twisting.

Because maybe with enough topics spamming their boards, PGI might realize that.."oh hey, maybe our players really are serious about changing this meta thing"
Cuz dont most games make changes on forums based on popularity of the topic? I know Planetside 2 has a spot that says thats how they do it.
And then we'll get more stupid systems like ghost heat and charged Gauss. When all people need to do is use cover and close or don't stand in the open and be jump sniped. No far easier to QQ on the forums about it instead of adapting.

Im updating MWO for the first time in ages, 19 updates downloading....
I always said id give it another try when they buffed SRMs. I heard they are like... 2.15 damage now.
I guess that counts??
What is scaring me is that on the shiny 'new' general discussion forum here, everyone is talking about the meta like i HAVENT BEEN GONE FOR A YEAR
I gave the game a YEAR break, because the pinpoint damage PPC\Gauss PPC\AC5 meta got so old.
I have 34+ mechs, and the only ones I used the last few months of playing were JJ equipped PPC or AC snipers.
Now people are mentioning 2cerppc JJ timerwolves and 2gauss2ppc Dire Wolves....
Once again....
IT'S BEEN A YEAR!??!?!?!
Is it still pinpoint-damage-sniper, hull-down-behind-ridge, peak-n-poke-warrior
-online?
This update is slow so Im debating if I should uninstall or not

that's why I proposed this mechanic to fix it http://mwomercs.com/...-voltage-meter/

Wait? Doesnt it mean Pin Point Front Loaded Damage? I see people using PP, which I assumed meant PinPoint and FLD, which I assume meant Front Loaded Damage, as its always in reference to Gauss/PPC and the Meta....
Yeah, someone else already answered my question. Thanks for the answers everyone.
