...move with them. Even if you love humping ridges or you're an lrm boat, find a new ridge to hump that allows you to shoot at the same guys your teammates are engaging. Otherwise, unless your six teammates happen to be the highly skilled guys the matchmaker expects to carry the match, you're probably going to have 10 mechs after you pretty soon and you're going to die as well.

Often, *gasp*, the enemy mechs will be focused on your teammates and not you, at least initially. This means you get to take free shots on enemy mechs! Isn't that your dream?

If your teammates are Leeroying it, walking across the open and getting LRM rained, it's one thing, but when they're clearly moving from cover to cover and leapfrogging forward, they're probably more veteran players than the five guys around you who are playing ridgecamper online. So go help the guys who look like they know what they're doing, rather than the bro who's taking a pause for the cause to reload his bong while waiting for someone to find LRM targets for him.

What about when 4 of your team start advancing and your team tries to follow them but you end up with a long train and the enemy starts picking off the tails (usually the very slow mechs that are trying to keep up) one by one but your team just keeps moving leaving them behind?

You tell them to slow down.

That's a beginning of the map issue, and you need to call them out in chat to hold up. But when the team has gathered, and one significant group moves to take action...they're the default group leaders at that point, because they're actually doing something. Camping out behind a ridge usually is not the best option at that point. For better or worse, follow that group's lead.
