I got to say I am absolutely sick of this stupid mountain on Alpine. Every fricken fight on that map involves every friken mech climbing this darn mountain and slugging it out on top.

Seriously this map is huge so why put a terrain feature in that is so dominate that every other place on the map is wasted.

I mean it is so boring to play this map anymore so please, please fix it.

Flatten out this damn mountain. Call in an orbital strike and turn it into a series of low (or at least lower), jagged hills and craters where you can actually have a serious brawl and use some real tactics. Please for the love of god do this.

Last year in discussion here it was suggested to add a tunnel through the mountain. Dont know how well that would play but it would add more than exists right now and maybe allow the brawlers close in fighting.

they need more cover options on the map frankly all the maps with few exceptions need better cover options would help alot with the poptart meta and brawlers if they had enough cover on all maps.

Agreed. They need a variant for the map.

Alpine Peaks - Post Mass Driver Attack

Blow the top off the center peak, throw in a series of giant craters and lots of large rubble around to break up the open spaces and such... The size of the map is great, just need more variations in terrain and such.

Right, because every place on every planet should be loaded up with overhangs and high walls for people to hide behind.
Can't wait for the "Rolling Hills/Meadows" map to come out, people will QQ until they die from dehydration...

Er.. Or pgi just add new maps? :*) Players end up fighting on H9 in Alpine because they choose to engage there. I've had good fights all over it to be honest whether its K8, I11 or wherever. If you dont wanna trudge up the hill every match, dont.. Simples.. 'squeak!'

I've had some fantastic fights on that map. None of them involved trudging up that mountain. I've also had some extremely long matches, or matches that reached the time limit, simply because one team was just not going to summit that thing up to the opposing team.

I don't have a problem with the open terrain, I have a problem with the fact that every match congregates in that single spot, every time. I say lop the mountain off. Put in a ski resort or something. My lance will hold the black diamond!

I'm actually looking forward to a map where the terrain doesn't dominate. Right now, many maps make non-JJ mechs work hard to get into the fight, or create so many narrow choke points and/or areas of advantageous cover that team mates are climbing all over each other to get by or are getting hit with friendly fire. Realistically, even dropship captains would be having a tough time landing on the maps we have now.

Just don't run to the center.

The map is huge. You are not obligated to run to center like a moron.

That hill is FAR too close to the base turrets on Assault, causing the biggest issue about that location.

Perhaps relocate that base to the other outpost to the right side of the map?

Ideally though, that hill needs something done about it. The other base has only two small hills that no one bothers with..

Enemy presence will persist it.
Also, if you go to take the base instead... you have to go right by it and be shot to death by those on it.
Thus... on Assault you are obligated. On Conquest you're also obligated as you have to stand right next to it to get to 3 of the 5 bases.
And don't forget... on Skirmish it's either go there or don't play....sounds kinda obligated in the long run.

Sure you can choose not to go there, but you won't win either.

Actually, I would go about it the opposite way: Enlarge the mountain so that it is nigh impossible to navigate on or over it. Clear the bowl area in the lower end of said mountain, and enlarge the circumference of its base. That way, it can be used as cover and allow scouts to actually fulfill their role.

I also would not be opposed to a tunnel connecting the large base to the smaller fuel depot on the other end of the map through this new large mountain. And if PGI feels bolder, add a branch that connects to the north radio tower, and include a small underground complex inside the mountain.

I believe this could add more tactical value to the map.

1) Assault is a garbage mode, which has inherent flaws. So, whatever.
2) On skirmish you are not at all obligated to go to center. There are multiple positions where you can actually assault center from range and ruin folks who are stupid enough to try and stay up there. It's just rare that you see this, because the normal idea from most pugs is, "Derp! I just spawned! RUN FORWARD!"

In general a central feature is a failing in many of the maps.

Caustic valley has the cauldera were nearly every match becomes a ring around the hill pop and shoot whack a mole match.

Alpine is king of the mountain (we all know what mountain)

Terra Therma is almost always flaming thunder dome in the center

HPG is also ring around the obstruction with all the charm of terra therma's thunder dome if you fight under side.

The remaining maps are so small that they are painfully predictable.

Out of all of them Crimson Straight seems to be the best designed.

Nothing is more depressing then seeing your team decide to defend the road on Alpine after loosing the G9 race. Thankfully it doesn't last long.

So because you don't like the engagement area you want to change it!!!

Playing a combat game you should Often have to make the best of a bad situation. It separates the good from the should have played a different game.

Many maps need some updates to their designs, as I've detailed before here:

http://mwomercs.com/...29#entry3524129

EDIT: the summary of it is that the center of a map shouldn't contain the only interesting feature of the map

Dunno about that.
Typically when I play a a war game, I like for it to feel like I'm in a war.

Actually, I would like to see the maps terrain features and base locations generate in different locations on a regular bassis so that players that have played a map 100s or 1000s of times do not autmatically know where the best locations are to level the playing field a little - so to speak.
