What you see here on the Banshee BNC-3S display on the bottom left.
On the front view:
Left arm: Armor. Orange means less than 50% remaining.
LT, CT, RT, Right Arm: No armor. It's gone.
Notice on the Rear display, LT, CT, and RT still have Rear armor...but no front armor.
That help?

Very much so, thanks. It's hard to tell orange vs yellow but I can tell the armor is gone.

Wait what am I missing? I assume it is to be viewed from the front, if so didn't you mix the arms up? If it's vived from the back then what's the difference vs the rear view?

You are missing the >L< and >R< next to each of the paper dolls

PGI really should add an alternative to the current paperdoll that can be read by colorblind people. It should be doable to have the armor and internal sections slowly disappear as they take damage, by reducing the width of the lines and adding gaps here and there. They'll need to make some new graphics for it but that's easy enough. Alternatively, the classic HTAL readout would work too.

"L" is left. "R" is right.
The display for yourself is displayed as if you look down upon your body or look at yourself in the third person from behind.
Left is left, right is right. Front and back, because it is you.
In real life does your left become your right just because you look down at your hands? No.
And a battlemech cannot look at the mirror. Even if it did, your reflected left would still be on your left side. If you raised your left hand, the left hand of the reflected image would still be on the same side; your left. No matter what, your left is seen as your left, the only way that will ever change is if your head is no longer part of your body (or in this case if you could get out of your mech and look at it).
The display for the enemy's front side and rear side is displayed as if you are looking upon them.
If they face you, then front display is correct for enemies in that their right is your left, their left is your right.
If they face away from you, then the enemy rear display is correct in that their left is your left, their right is your right.
