(Shamed) I am sorry I meant no disrespect to the Ghost Bear's. You guys are still true Clanners with or without the title.

;)
Plus the word you would like to use is Clansmen. Clanner is a derogatory word used by the spheroids.

Ground work is coming along. We need to inject a solid dose of "clan" into the Cluster, though. Structure and methodology wise. Most of us are, I think, desiring everything clan we can do without driving ourselves insane. Some differences from textbook clanner concepts might be done, however. One idea I am looking at is how to limit potential disaster from the normal open season on Trials. If you have incredible piloting skill but the tactical genius of a surrat you can, by the book, challenge a superior officer and take his place. Inserting the need to get someone to second your challenge may be required to avoid such stupidity.

If or when I can get this idea pushed into reality then we can be free to introduce all the various trials that come with being a Clan, like Trials of Position, Refusal, Grievance (although I suppose in this case it would not require a second), and Bloodright. For better or worse, the individual who decided to recollect the Nova Cats of the former Dragon Cat Cluster is of IRL military background and hates the idea of just being able to override and disrespect the established chain of command. A proper clan meeting and discussion needs to take place, however, and understandably many of the 58th are not available tonight.

Actually setting up trials is another headache we need to sort out, though I understand that the Ghost Bears are willing to lend a hand, as would the Wolves I hope.

Another thing I need to get done is to get the bulk of the 58th to actually check, respond on, and post on the forums. That may be the single hardest task ahead of us in the short term. :\

This is the sort of hell we need to go through given there are no legacy Clan Nova Cats floating around. They are all gone with history. Forces us to build everything from the ground up without any established roots or structure. In short, it is a tremendous headache.

Edit:

Either that, or get some stravag help. I am doing an awful lot of legwork right now, and I am not even the Star Colonel.

Our solution as a Clan to the issues you state are the following:

1.) No Warrior in a Star may challenge more than 1 above his rank at a time. (i.e. 5th point can only challenge 4th point)

2.) All Trials of Possession for a given rank are approved through the chain of command. (i.e. you cannot just duel and post results, it must be officiated)

3.) A challenge to an officer must be approved by the Trinary Commander and Cluster Commander (typically this is a Star Captain/ Star Colonel, and a Star Colonel/Galaxy Commander).

4.) Officers do not have to accept the challenge from Warriors, and even if the officer is defeated, the Chain of Command must grant the rank. (The rank itself may be withheld if there is reasonable cause).

Last, of course we would be willing to help you guys fill out any drops for Trials of Position and/or Possession!

Oh. Sorry.

If you desire to be trothkin, you should submit your surkai and see if you are granted surkairede. Though they do not have to accept, if they do, once your task to prove surkairede is completed, the offense will be forgotten and stricken from your codex, and your honor will be restored.

Thanks for the under-the-hood on the Wolf's systems. I am also curious on how the Ghost Bears do it, as I understand you do it differently as well.

In other news:

What is this, Barcella? So much non-Nova Cat related chit chat going on in here I figured we were under premature invasion again. ;)

I can't speak for all the Ghost Bears, but we are always happy to drop with fellow trothkin. We have a larger server where we could make you guys a diplomatic channel (just to log in to ask us questions, ask for help with a drop if you need more, etc.) i do not have the athority to make this channel, but we have them for a few other clans, just talk to any one from the keshik and im sure they would be more than happy to help.

Double post, I know, but...

Searching for the channel, and not seeing it listed on the CGB website. Hard to have a bunch of Nova Cat party crashers jump in without KF-Warp coordinates. ;)

good point i was hoping the officer would have gotten the server info to you, but i will send you a PM with it, we only use our channels on the NGNG for outreach, but even then i do not think we usually have anyone waiting in the channel if we need to be reached.

Aff. Much appreciated. We will be coming, but nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition Nova Cats, so no ETA....

Edit: Waiting until more of the higher ups get on. No idea when that will be.

I sent him our TS info. I am also usually logged on NGNG: Outreach, CGB HPG and Wolf HPG on TS3. Sometimes I am also logged in to MercStar and ComStar TS servers as well.

EDIT: Nevermind! Saw you mentioned our TS in your post...cause you are in the CGB channel there frequently.

I am going to toss a suggestion to you. Ditch the lostech proboards and go with enjoy or anook they both offer great service and your site looks more from 2014 vs 2004

Assuming enjoy is autocorrect for enjin? :) We are using enjin, ourselves, but the admin tools for sitebuilding are slightly rage inducing.

Might I also suggest making your own thread for the Blood Scorpions, too? Would be a somewhat more appropriate place to advertise for it.

I though about using enjin. But some of the features I wanted, along with it's monthly cost was a bit expensive. Besides, I don't have enough money to support it and I have to watch my budget carefully. But if I do have the money, I'll consider it.

Glad to hear things are going well for you guys. :) The new Cluster Colors look great.

I wanted to toss in some perspective I had on the earlier discussion of Zellbrigen. Perhaps it is because I haven't read the books but I never saw Zellbrigen as saying you could not use terrain. Half the rules of Zellbrigen are establishing who you should challenge to a 1 on 1 duel and that group combat in general should be broken up into duels. Yes the Kit Fox can refuse to fight the Dire Wolf if there is a Adder he could fight instead, if there is no one else left he is SOL.

As players we seem focused on the idea that Zellbrigen is one player challenges another to a duel and that it is the rules for how that Duel is fought. But Zellbrigen is actually the rules for how battles are fought, EVERYONE challenges someone to a duel, and when those are decided the victors challenge each other.

The actual rules of engagement themselves seem to revolve around making sure a Clan Warrior: Fights his own battles, Doesn't back down or shrink from the fight, doesn't behave in a way that could be seen as cowardly and doesn't take it easy on his opponent.

Look at the actual prohibitions:
- No Aoe weapons or team based systems.
- No Intentionally moving out of the line of sight of the opponent
- No Moving out of weapon range
- Failure to fire a weapon when possible is prohibited

Players seem to consider not leaving line of sight to mean you can't use terrain. But if you look at the common theme I would interpret it to mean you don't Hide or back off from a fight. Once the foe is engaged the fight is nonstop, you do not lay off them, you do not give them quarter, you don't give them a chance to rest or cooldown, you keep attacking whenever you can. Can you vie for better position to attack from? Certainly. And given how long ranged clan weapons are you can actually fight at pretty long range so long as you don't retreat further than you can keep shooting. You should be able to use terrain to your advantage as long as you are not using it to hide, none of the poke a gun out, snipe and shrink back behind the same rock stuff, I don't think you should be able to hug a single piece of cover or use terrain to hide sneaking all the way around behind them, but you should be able to dive behind it to absorb a few shot and move into a more advantageous position, just don't sit or stop behind it.

As for the Trail's of Position, I know the Clans are all about personal combat, but I don't see why you couldn't add another leadership trial that had to be passed before before a member could challenge for a leadership role. Have to first prove that they can successfully lead a Lance in battle by doing so (because we can't group in Stars yet.) before they can challenge for the position to lead one, take command and lead an entire team successfully in battle before they can challenge for higher ranks. but I don't see why you couldn't add another requirement leadership trial that had to be passed before before a member could challenge for a leadership role. You have to think, their ranking structure was developed in an environment where everyone they fought used Zellbrigen, so there was no need for commanders who really knew how to co-ordinate group battles, the convention was everything was going to be fought as duels anyway. Once the fighting started everyone was essentially on their own anyway. Rank fulfilled more of a role as a social status than of battlefield command until they hit up against the group tactics of the IS. With Combat being a series of duels having your best duelist with a special status that helps him call out the best duelist on the other team probably doesn't hurt either.

CGB had the free setting for over a year and we were fine. Provided you are not needing advanced features. We used it mainly for the application form and the forums. Gives you the same free stuff a proboards gives but in a nicer package.

A salute to our Nova Cat brethren for a battle well fought. I did not even notice it was you until I saw a spider run by sporting the colors of Nova Cat Alpha Galaxy. You bested me and a few pups, but you'd best stay sharp. Next time may play out much differently.

Ah, so Ninjivitis is a Wolf! We were commenting on how cool that name was a couple days ago. XD This would not have been on Alpine about an hour ago, was it? If it was, your team was just letting me melt them and spot for the LRM stalker on the hill.

If it was not, then that was more than likely Flareheart piloting the Spider. She is a cub, herself.

Nope. I was the only Spider tonight, for only one game. Yeah, sadly your teammates did not.. uh... have situational awareness. They ignored the UAV that lit up 2/3 of your team, your Shadowhawk and Painbow-Catapult just let me drill them, and your Highlander was so busy trying to swat me that he totally ignored the 5xLRM10 Stalker that was just unloading into his back. I hate it when my teammates do that, so you have my sincerest apologies in that matter. Mismatches are never fun.

Let me get an easy 700+ damage game that drop, though, with that spider....

Hopefully we meet in the fields again, shortly. With better puggies filling both our ranks.
