HELP!
I typed the following into Notepad:
cl_fov = 85
I then saved it as user.cfg and dropped it into my MWO folder.
Nothing happens....I tried to drop it into 'system' but that wasn't allowed. What am I doing wrong here?
Thanks in advance!

Fov Etc.

did you save it as unicode?
If on Vista / 7 / 8, choose 'run as admin' to start it going. (Should only need to do it once for it to 'update' the 'power user layer')
90 is about the limit and some mechs might be a bit off graphically with it - 86 is reccomended.
Mine is:
cl_fov = 86
gp_option_ShowCockpitGlass = 0
r_DepthOfField = 0
r_HDRGrainAmount = 0.0
sys_MaxFPS = 45
r_ssao = 0
r_ssdo = 0
e_TerrainAo = 0
sys_PakPriority = 0
sys_PakPriority 0
sys_PakValidateFileHash = 0
So's there's no reason yours shouldn't work otherwise.

Also make sure that extensions are not hidden (as it is probably "user.cfg.txt" in reality).
I should note that notepad has to be in Administrator mode if you are trying to save or edit a user.cfg inside your Program Files folders (most of us who run these changes have it installed somewhere else like a secondary drive).

The folder you want also contains system-created config files: system.cfg and systemoverride.cfg. This is where user.cfg goes.

^ This
By default notepad will save every file as a .txt file, adding that to the end of what is entered in the file name box. To not have this happen you have to do 'save as' from the file menu and then change the 'Save as type:' box from 'Text Document (*.txt)' to 'All Files (*.*)' which will save the file as the exact name entered in the file name box.
