Now that everyone has their new toys how is the skilling coming? For me the Stormcrow was easy street to skill. The Nova was not so easy. Working through the basic on the KitFox with one variant left. Not sure which one will be next, might even go back to skill an IS for a break.

How is it going for you?

Same as always, because we have a really mundane skill system?

Absurdly well on my Kit Fox lol. Took a total of 31 games to get all 3 fully Basic'd. Probably going to make the KFX-S the main one, since it doesn't lose anything for having the Ballistic//JJ Torsos.

I may have fallen in love with the Kit Fox in general though, lol.

My Prime Daishi was quite easy, even has a positive KDR (unlike everything else I have...so I'm quite proud of it). My Daishi B? Not going so well...I may have to experiment with a different loadout. Those have been the only ones I've tried in earnest. After my Daishis, I plan on going with smallest up.

As a tip, LRMs and UAV's are a great combination for skilling up mechs.

Even if you are only using the UAV once you are in a brawl and not strategically, you can gain a good amount of exp.

Damn, now I feel like an ass for not considering that!

Stormcrow is my friend, Nova was not. Nova requires a lot of patience and trigger discipline. Timber Wolf is mostly my friend, the Timby C not so much. Haven't touched the others yet.

Kit Fox is painful.

Having the best results just running around with 2 large pulse lasers and ECM and not even bothering to try to spot or Narc things. Certainly earn more xp just dealing damage.

Large Pulse? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

2 ERLL + 1 ERML + 2 MGs might fare better, due to more reach and more damage output. Or you can try some kind of ERPPC + ERML build. If you're really ballsy, you can attempt 2 CERPPC (littlest poptart!).

Yeah I tried 2 ERPPC but it just couldn't keep up any kind of decent rate of fire. Might give that 2 ERLL and MG build a try.

I mainly tried the LPLs just for the wubwubwub sound but ended up liking it. Wish the duration on the beam was shorter.

Timberwolf was not bad at skilling up but getting the extra modules took a little bit of time. Experimented a lot between long range T/Wolf vs brawler specific and have finally decided that long range capabilities (large lasers and LRMs) is important for a T/wolf before things start getting into brawling mode. Don't get me wrong a brawling T/wolf with multiple SRMs can be devastating but not having long range damage potential hurts your team at the beginning.

Nova - was quite painful at times and sometimes tried to go with MLs for extra reach and more exp but eventually fell back to 12 SLs and 4 MGs as standard for all 3 chassis. Some games goes really well with 500-700 damage and then those other games where getting around 300 was a struggle. Had to really learn a new concept of short range attack and heat management with this mech... Getting extra modules felt like forever.

Kitfox - Working on currently. Running with 2 LLs, MGs, ecm and ams as standard. Finding it best to keep distance at first when possible and use arty/uav for extra damage/exp. Finding it not to bad to Elite. Third module wil be useful in these mechs. Running with ECM and multiple ams can really work well for the team as long as they still do their thing rather than crowding the KFX and expect you to take the lead. Find it best not to announce what your mech has and just choose which team mechs you want to be friendly with throughout the match.

Ember/Firestarters - Initial runs make it an appealing mech to me as I played Jenners for many 1000s of games. Looking forward to this chassis and will work on next after the Kitfox. I am a light mech player at heart and will move back to this role after skilling up the other mechs.

Direwolf - haven't even gone their yet.

Looking forward to the Stormcrow being sold for CBills as I will pick them up straight away.

Cheers!
Eboli.

Took me a while and a whole lot of experimentation, and an accompanying 16-20 millions C-bills worth of Clan Weapons and equipment, to finally get my Timberwolfs performing decently. Alot of things that work great on IS mechs, like LL builds, sucked arse on the T-Wolf. I even had negative K/D ratios for the first 20-30 matches trying to get them tweaked out.

However, I finally got them finely tuned and things went pretty smooth for the final 50-60 matches it took me to Master them out.

Really looking forward to the other Chassis coming out. Kit Fox, Nova, Direwolf, Stormcrow and Warhawk all look interesting. Tempted to buy the Nova Pack or ala carte the Stormcrow to jump the line and save some C-bills for the more expensive chassis like the Direwolf and Warhawk, but it is hard to justify the money without knowing how truly expensive in C-bills those chassis are going to be. I would feel totally like crap if the Direwolf ended up only costing about as much as an Atlas AS7-K.

Kit Fox is easy, ECM arm, Missile arm, and the JJ Torso's. Do LRMs for assists, and large laser/machine guns.

Easy peasy.

Anything that can LRM boat is simple to skill up. That said, the Nova was the longest "grind" but nearly finished now. LRM's are so ridiculously OP that it takes nothing, just slap a couple LRM 20's on and go for the ride.
